reed338 11 Posted April 1, 2012 http://www.lowpriceguns.com/product.php_401135 what do you think? would this be a good fun gun for steel ?
blksheep 466 Posted April 1, 2012 Sure, 45 can get pricey though unless you reload.
Steve_G 51 Posted April 1, 2012 I think that would be a good gun for many things. Steel? Maybe not. If that's all you plan to do, go with a 9mm or even a .22 to keep the ammo costs down. Going through 150 - 200 rounds of .45 stings the wallet a little. Very nice though!
reed338 11 Posted April 2, 2012 yes i will reload so that wont be a problem with ammo .
hd2000fxdl 422 Posted April 2, 2012 http://www.lowpriceg...duct.php_401135 what do you think? would this be a good fun gun for steel ? Heck Bob, you reload and that's a nice 6" 1911. Be good for USPSA also, so when you getting it??
NickC 23 Posted April 2, 2012 DO IT! But you realize that'll make you part of the "Rich Kid" gun club.

Babaganoosh 192 Posted April 2, 2012 It's a fun gun for steel but overkill IMHO. Go with a 9mm or .40 cal to cut costs almost in half. However I shoot 3-4 matches a month so it adds up quickly. If I could afford to shoot 45 every time I would. Let your ammo budget decide. Guns are cheap, ammo is expensive.

hd2000fxdl 422 Posted April 2, 2012 Bob, minor loads and your own cast bullets and you're probably going to load .45 for less than I do for .40, and by quite a bit.
raz-0 1,256 Posted April 2, 2012 .45 plus steel isn't usually the recommended formula. For a 1911, a 9mm with lighter loads will play the game much better. With .45, by the time you slow down the bullet enough to cut recoil to anything near the 9mm in a 1911 level, you risk intact bullets bouncing back at you. At least static steel. Knockdown steel is a different matter. A lighter .45 bullet loaded on the light end of the scale, in a 5" gun transitions pretyt nicely, has decent recoil, and will definitely still knock stuff down. lunker 274 Posted April 2, 2012 Bob, You know your snobby 1911 is not going to want to sit in the same safe as your Hi-Point.
alec.mc 180 Posted April 2, 2012 Go with a 9mm Bob, That way I steal more of your used brass. Love, Alec
blksheep 466 Posted April 3, 2012 9mm is usually better but I have heard good things about .40 too.
alec.mc 180 Posted April 3, 2012 9mm is usually better but I have heard good things about .40 too. True, From what I've seen. 9mm and 40 are the most popular for centerfire divisions.
Sivl32 27 Posted April 3, 2012 I shot my .45 for steel once.... that was the last time lol
zoid 24 Posted April 3, 2012 I use 45 for steel all the time. Just load it light and you'd be surprised how well it performs. Nothing beats a 9mm though. Eventually I want a 9mm 1911 dedicated for steel.

Mikeythumbs 1 Posted July 25, 2012 I shoot tmj hardball for steel and being it is my hd gun I like. If does get expensive but I don't reload yet and even when I do reload I think once every couple of matches I will shoot the hardball just to stay in pratice . I consider gun games fun but also prep with my hd gun. Ps I also usually shoot the .22 iron division not that is just fun . Nice gun I think you will like it
Steve_G 51 Posted July 25, 2012 Very nice, Bob. When are you bringing her out, first or third Sunday in August?
M4BGRINGO 139 Posted July 25, 2012 I have almost the same gun Bob. Mine isn't the Target version, but looks almost identical. After shooting it back to back with my 625 revolver, I shoot the revolver instead. Why? Because the 1911 is so nice looking and I want it to stay that way! The revolver is simply a good tool but isn't pretty so I beat on her a lot!
LorenzoS 100 Posted July 25, 2012 For steel I think you'll want a 9mm 1911 rather than .45 ACP. Its cheaper and some ranges have an issue with larger calibers damaging the steel targets. A 9mm 1911 is also incredibly pleasant and fun to shoot.
