Saw a used model 59 loooked gently used is 400 a fair price for this gun. It is the blued one not the stainless

The stainless would be a 659 (1st generation). One of the first "wonder nines". An interesting piece, if you are a collector. They weren't really highly thought of, even when they were contemporary. For your $400 I think you can do better with a more modern firearm.

1st Gen = 59

2nd Gen = 659, 459, etc.

3rd Gen = 5906, 6906, etc.

 

IIRC, the two digit series is early 80s.

J&G had some 5906 trade ins for less than 300 a couple months ago, saw in shotgun news.

I held a very nice 5906 at Rahway guild 2 months ago. $350/negotiable

 

But, don't buy it because I want to.

$400 is high for a model 59. I would spend the money on a newer model if you like that style.

Even though I should know better I looked at the prices in the flier and though this place was in jersey then looked at the website . Why can't we get prices like that so need to move out of this state

A friend of mine had a 59. Looked great, but produced a shotgun pattern. At 25 yards it couldn't FIND a 2' x 2' target! He got rid of it before he scratched it, then bought a 1911 .45. This was way back prior to .40's being invented, lol!

 

I'd steer clear and put my money else where!

I just picked up a 5906 (3rd Generation) and am having fun with it. The 5906 was about the same price.

If you don't mind cosmetic work, Buds has used 59's for much less.
