AR Pistols Legal in NJ?

Recommended Posts

Bushmaster has thier carbon 15 stripped upper listed on their site, but I cant find anyplace that sells them http://www.bushmaste...cts.asp?cat=601 (about 1/2 way down the page)

I was thinking one of those with one of the polymer lowers and a short, lightweight barrel might be light enough (but prob not, lol)

It is not manufactured until it is built into a pistol.

If that's the case than it is unlawful for ANY of us to build from a Raw Receiver Paul. I Understand what you're saying, and i Agree that that is how they would try to spin it if anyone did end up in a jam over it, but the "Manufacturing" is done by the SOT who Produces the Lower..not the Consumer who assembles the parts. All that aside...what are we taking for one of those lowers????

What if a company made a trigger that fit in front of the mag well kinda like a bullpup. A simple linkage and cover would work. That would delete an evil features, and I'm theory makes room for another one. Im not well versed in laws that pertain to this stuff but its just an idea

In theory, I guess it could work. If the trigger were directly in front of the magazine well, and your trigger firing hand wrapped around the magazine well, you could claim that as the pistol grip. I think that it would be would be quite a bit awkward to hold though.

Just bought a polymer lower, perhaps I should investigate some "lightweight" pistol uppers.

Edit: Hrmm, what happens if I build a pistol without ever having had a P2P for it?

Nothing happens to you, unless you post about it on the public internet, in which case you find out what the term "knockless search warrant" means!

ii. A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at
least two of the following:
(1) An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
(2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor,
forward handgrip, or silencer;
(3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and
that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being
burned;
(4) Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and/or
(5) A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm; and

Everyone here forgot about #3 as well, as some AR pistols come with a handguard. There IS an AR15 pistol that came without the handguard, and managed to be under 50 ounces unloaded. That left the only strike to be the magazine, which would make it legal. I believe it was the Bushmaster Carbon 15 pistol.

So if I'm in possession of both an oven mitt and a NJ-legal AR pistol without the shroud/handguard, can they get me for constructive intent?

Very cool.... So it is just under the 50oz NJ weight limit.. With regards to the weight. I assume you could add a scope even though it would then be over weight?

And if I can add as a scope accessory could I add a sig brace?

while maybe technically legal.. you are IMO drawing a ton of attention to yourself..  the ATF has stated that is not a stock.. but throw that thing on and go shouldering it blasting away at the range and IMO you may find yourself being asked a lot of questions..

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.

Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
