rfkhunter 1 Posted July 29, 2012 Well, getting my first AR Stag Arms Model 3 from Bullseye this coming week. I've been looking at ammo, and want to know what to avoid. Love the pricing on the russian stuff, tula etc... I was told to avoid the laquer coated steel casings. Tula lists it as Phosphate polymer-coated steel case. Same as WPA. Will this ammo cause problems ? Just looking to buy the least expensive, but obviously dont want crap ! Thanks Rich K
johnp 45 Posted July 29, 2012 IDK what the popular opinion is on here, but I've always been told and heard don't use steel cased ammo in ARs.
njJoniGuy 2,060 Posted July 30, 2012 The steel cased ammo won't cause you problems (imho) as long as: -The firearm manufacturer doesn't tell you it will void the warranty (like in the Thompson 45acp) -You don't leave it sit in the sun on the line when shooting a match (keep it frozen overnight before the match and bring it to the range in your cooler bag) -You don't shoot brass-cased ammo immediately after the polymer-coated steel-cased stuff without cleaning the chamber with a chamber brush -You avoid the older lacquer-coated steel-cased ammo
RubberBullets 65 Posted July 30, 2012 Id stick with brass cased ammo and do yourself a favor and collect the brass to store for when you either decide to get into reloading... OR have enough to trade to a reloader for a trinket worth its weight in spent brass
2 trip_nick 0 Posted July 30, 2012 When I tried Herters Russian steel case in my new Stag I had many misfeeds and one cartridge stuck in the chamber. I haven't had one feed problem with brass.
checko 179 Posted July 30, 2012 I usually buy the cheapest brass cased stuff I can find. Usually ends up PMC bronze or Aguilar. They are as accurate as I can be and reliable.

jamjamtaba 0 Posted July 30, 2012 I've got a Stag Model 3 and I've used Federal and American Eagle. Recently, I purchased Ultramax but have not had the opportunity to use those rounds. So far, no problem with any of the ammo I've tried.
Anselmo 87 Posted July 30, 2012 I've had good luck with Federal, American Eagle and Russian Silver Bear.
