A scant two years. Two years and we'll have a store that isn't going to suck and actually make going to the mall worth it.

Best part about this.... for the least likely future, no sales tax on cabelas.com as long as no store in NJ.

Will be a fantastic complex in DE... my ex worked for Citigroup around there, and stopped by Christiana a few times, tons of stores, great shopping. Yet close enough for us.

Yup. Just use tax. Retroactively when they catch you. NJ hasn't had a collection operation that I've heard of in a few years, I'm sure they have a good'n in the works.

I just went to the Cabelas in Hamburg today. Their prices are forking rediculous. 38.99 for 100 .30 cal 175gr BTHP? WTH!? I buy them from Salomons for quite literally half that. Same with powder, I can get it for 19.99 instead of 27.99. Im not impressed at all.

Looks like about an 80 mile R/T savings for me when it opens.. I agree with NJKen, their prices aren't the best... I find buying online w/free shipping or even $5 shipping is the best deal, no gas/tolls/time... Still the best place to browse and pick up some odds and ends tho..

It's about a 60 mile/ 1 hour round trip savings for me. With other stores in the area, my wife can shop for her while we are there.

Prices generally are not great nut I have lucked out with in store 20% savings on powder and primers. Sometime it's just luck. Regulator72 is correct. They have a ton of odds and ends that you remember you need while there. The ammo isles ate the worst though.

Hopefully the new store will be bug like the hamburg store. Supposedly, hamburg is the biggest cabelas.

The odd stuff they have isnt so odd really, they just stock a full line of things. It seems like odd stuff to us because we dont have anything like it in new jersey. That is their saving grace for me. I did buy a few things while there but only because I have been unable to find them locally or online. I only spent about $60.

I agree that most of Cabelas prices are ridiculous but they usually have what you want. The only place I knew like that in NJ was Ray's. Need an expander ball for your 9.3x52 Karkenfarker dies? They'd have it in stock.

In case anyone was like me and wondering the status of the new store in DE, found this article dated 8/1/13, so almost two months old now...

http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20130801/SPORTS17/308010055/Plans-new-Cabela-s-store-still-track

In short:

- Still going through with store, despite rumors otherwise

- Planning on Spring 2014 open

Anyone happen to have driven by the site by the Christiana mall that they're building this at?  Construction was supposed to start in 2013 and I'm thinking they should be well on their way by now in developing the site.  Appreciate any visual confirmations.

Being an hour away from me, can't wait to see this open though a little bummed that it's not going to be as big as the one in Hamburg, PA.  Per Cabela's, that one is 250,000 sq ft and the one they're building in DE is "only" 110,000 sq ft.

Oh well...

i was at the mall a week or two ago. theres definitely a lot going on behind their construction fences, although i didn't see anything that looked like a building. i think they are making a 'hill' to put it on but i'm not 100 percent sure

Maybe it's just a store. Not aquarium, mountain or that stuff

That would almost make it boring.  Cabela's isn't just going to a store...its an event.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
    • I saw Lara's interview on Bannon's War Room, and that gave me pause for thought. Her conjecture depends primarily on the veracity of her sources. Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
