NJdiverTony 27 Posted September 7, 2012 Hey guys, I currently have a regular M4 stock but want something nicer, so been thinking about changing it out. I've been looking at the Magpul CTS, STR, and ACS-L... but nto sure which would be best for me. Since I can't see them in person and picture what they will look like on my rifle or feel how they would work on my rifle (cheek weld, confort, etc.) it's making for a really tough decision. Here's a pic of my rifle below... Spikes 14.5" middy... Any other stocks I should consider besides the Magpul's and why? If you guys could help me figure this out, I'd really appreciate it. Krdshrk 3,872 Posted September 7, 2012 I've got the STR on mine. It's awesome - love the cheek weld.
lunker 274 Posted September 7, 2012 Another fan of the STR. The CTR cheek weld is barely better than M4. I have one on my Noveske/Spike rifle. I regret not having gotten the STR.
Holeshot 3 Posted September 7, 2012 B5 Sopmod, It's half the price of the LMT and just as good. I love the cheek weld, it's like a sofa for your face. P/M sent
keithco88 3 Posted September 7, 2012 I got the EFX-A1 stock on mine. Cheek weld looks similar to the STR pictured above, but it's a fixed stock. If you order it from Stag they send you a whole kit with a buffer tube and spring so it all jives. Has a storage compartment in it but its barely enough for a little lube and an otis cleaning kit. nott 0 Posted September 7, 2012 I've shouldered the following stocks: Magpul STR, CTR, ACS-L, LMT SOPMOD and a Vltor EMOD. The cheekweld of the SOPMOD, EMOD and the STR is fantastic, you could fall asleep on them. The ACS-L's cheekweld is generous and the CTR provides only a modest one. A lot depends on your rifle and how you intend to use it. I find cheekweld space more critical for prone shooting and would steer you toward SOPMOD/EMOD/STR for that. Rifle balance is another consideration. On a front light rifle a CTR could be perfectly adequate, while providing better balance than either of the other, heavier options. Another concern is stock length, which is going to affect your length of pull once it's pinned. Finally, you need to assess your need for a skittles storage compartment for taking your game at the range to the next level. I personally ended up going with an EMOD over a SOPMOD for my recent acquisition for its ergonomics and aesthetics, but I could be equally happy with either a SOPMOD or an STR. -
RubberBullets 65 Posted September 7, 2012 I put an ACS-L on the same spikes upper and enjoy it. Looking back I might have spent the extra coin for the cheek weld of the ACS, but I guess a little weight savings cant hurt. +1 for the storage compt for a few batteries or a micro cloth for optics. rightisright 3 Posted September 7, 2012 A few months ago Holeshot sold me a bull barrel AR w. the RRA Operator A2 stock (http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=540) on it. I've really come to like this stock a lot. I mounted a Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 (http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/vortex-viper-pst-4-16x50-riflescope-with-ebr-1-mrad-reticle) in a Burris PEPR QD mount (http://www.opticsplanet.com/reviews/reviews-burris-ar-tactical-mounts.html) on it. I also threw a Harris bipod on it. As to the stock, from the bench and prone it is awesome. I love the easy cheek weld and ergos. Can't speak to how it would work as a CQB stock, though. P.S. The gun is a tack-driver. Thanks Holeshot!
Lalo 13 Posted September 8, 2012 If you're going to go down the Magpul route, get an STR. Cheek weld is awesome and a little lighter than the ACS-L.
NJdiverTony 27 Posted September 8, 2012 Thanks for the info, all. I think I'm leaning towards the STR, but still not sure. I want something for run and gun and occasional bench shooting.

NJdiverTony 27 Posted September 12, 2012 I just got the Magpul STR today and put it on the rifle... It's sweeeeeeeeet! The cheek weld is awesome and super comfortable. Great stock! I was teetering back and forth between the STR and the ACS-L... but decided on the STR in the end. Definitely a good choice. Thanks for all the help, guys!
