NJKen 23 Posted October 19, 2012 I love this pistol. Its a great shooter and very ergonomic. My main problem is ammo availability. I cant find 5.7x28 anywhere anymore. It pisses me off greatly. Anybody else going through this too>? I have emailed FNH twice about ammo availability and they dont even respond at all. Kind of disappointing. I hear rumors that Federal is going to start making this ammo but the retailers I deal with cant find much about it. Ken

Bully 749 Posted October 19, 2012 Time to consider reloading? Might be worth it if you really like that gun. C

RubberBullets 65 Posted October 19, 2012 There are places that stock them... cabelas allows you to backorder which by accounts in the FN forum it takes about 2-3 months. I also read on the FN forums that an ammo price increase is on the way so now would be a good time to pick up some bulk. *edit* Cabelas is offering federal 5.7 but also backordered. TheLugNutZ 21 Posted October 19, 2012 My link wasnt sold out when i 1st posted it. Maybe the OP ordered the last of it lol
Socom 19 Posted October 19, 2012 Time to consider reloading? Might be worth it if you really like that gun. C from what I hear from other reloader it's a terrible cartridge to reload! You have to be gingerly delicate and perfect, most guys kaboom the 5/
Kaiser7 33 Posted October 19, 2012 How do you like it, other than ammo availability? I'm not much of a handgun guy, but other than revolvers, I really like the 5-7. I would like to get one as my first handgun, but I'm worried they might be cost prohibitive.

Its a handgun that averages 1k purchase and ammo is about. .40 per round.. but the guys i know that own it enjoy shooting it
Urban Grunt 44 Posted October 19, 2012 Wow Ken you shot up 600 rounds already, i guess she's broken in now
Malice4you 627 Posted October 19, 2012 Ammo availability was the reason I did not pick one of these guns up yet. I've wanted one for a while, but not being able to feed it would make for a very expensive paperweight...so I've been sticking to calibers I already own for the time being. I WILL own one, someday....

Smokin .50 1,907 Posted October 20, 2012 ALL of you should take into account that some indoor ranges have BANNED that cartridge already, due to its' ability to dent metal backstops. Indoor ranges that allow .30 cal rifles will probably not have any problems, but older backstops at club's like OBRPC have had trouble already........ Outside, you can blast away! halbautomatisch 60 Posted October 20, 2012 I've seen this ammo for sale at gun shows regularly, and recently. Anything around $20 a box is a fair price.

Maksim 1,504 Posted October 20, 2012 wow, did not know it was that expensive and that hard to find. Reloading 5.7 would be a pain in the ass as it is a bottleneck cartridge, so just like rifle reloading. Will take longer.
Urban Grunt 44 Posted October 20, 2012 The ss197 have always been $20-$23 per box of
halbautomatisch 60 Posted October 21, 2012 As other have said, and from what I understand, this is not an easy round to reload because the case deforms substantially when fired. Lyman does not recommend reloading the cases more than 2 or 3 times.

Kaiser7 33 Posted October 21, 2012 You're looking in the wrong locations. I assume that means you have it Paul? Actually, other than occasionally on the forums, I never see 5-7s for sale, anywhere.
Tactical Turtle 11 Posted October 23, 2012 19.99 a box free shipping over 99bucks http://www.slickguns.com/product/57x28mm-federal-american-eagle-40gr-tmj-50-1999-free-shipping-over-
RubberBullets 65 Posted October 23, 2012 Even though it says back-orderable, the expected shipping date says 0-1 weeks if that sounds promising enough. I almost want to buy some just to get in on some 5.7 stock just in case this crap gets expensive to find. is it sad I liked the look of the blue tip from fiocchi though? Tactical Turtle 11 Posted October 23, 2012 When i postes it i didnt notice it was back ordered. Maybe it sold out?
RubberBullets 65 Posted October 23, 2012 No the order page is deceiving. It says in stock until you go select from their chart where it says backorderable. Add it to the cart and the ETA for ship is 0-1 weeks so it isnt REALLY backordered far. It may just take 2 weeks to get to your door apparently.
