Very quiet in the woods today, not many shots heard at all. Really bad fog this morning got things off to a bad start. No bears or deer shot on my club today (and we've been seeing them regularly).

I spent yesterday in a WMA in the pines and didn't see anything, and heard only 3 groups of gunshots between 1615-1645, not a single other shot during the day. I'm back in my stand here today, and will be heading north to Somerset County tomorrow.

Do they close any of the schools on opening day in jersey? I honestly don't remember. I don't think we did at our school back in the 80s, because I remember the hunters weren't going to show up when that day came around.

New York moved their Opening Day from the traditional Monday to Saturday a few years ago to accommodate youth hunters and regular hunters who couldn't get out on the weekday. And I remember N.Y. high schools in the upstate regions being closed on the traditional Monday-opener some years go.

Actually, the schools are closed in most of PA. We had ~750,000 people hunt the Monday after Thanksgiving. Out of a state of about 13,000,000 people, including babies and elderly.
