So, we all know how tragic this past weekend has been for Newton, CT. I send my prayers out to all of the families affected by the massacre.

For us here in NJ however, do you think our local PD's will be using this as an opportunity to delay the FID and PP process even further??? Most townships here treat us as criminals and will wipe their butts clean with our FID/PP apps before they approve anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Here in Linden, one forum user is well past the 200-day mark. I just past the 30-day mark this past Saturday, and I'm afraid to even call and ask on my app's status. My references have yet to receive their letters. I can just imagine the disgruntled attitude I'll be given for wanting a gun during this time.

Only if I had disbanded my BS liberal socialist views when I turned 18, then I'd be swimming in firearms already... Times are tough.

      Hello all,
Some opinions please.  I am a long time NJ resident and also a resident in SC.  I spend 8 months out of the year in NJ out of necessity.  When I leave NJ I carry everywhere as I have multiple CWP's.  I have purchased many pistols legally in NJ over the years.
I was thinking about getting some new permits to pee...(my term for the Pistol Permit) but with all the BS that had been going on I was thinking about refraining.
I also have completed all the NJ CWP permit applications, but I am not sure I am actually going to apply.  I don't need to put up with the NJ BS.  To me it's insulting.  Plus with all the restrictions coming and being tied up in the courts for probably years, it may be just a futile exercise.   I would rather just leave when my house is build in SC and buy it there.  Once I switch my license to SC, its cash and carry for me.
I have the old, non-expiring FID.  What I do not want to happen is if I go apply for new permits to pee, that my FID gets converted to an expiring one and then I have to pay a renewal fee.
I did read the new regs and it looks like they are grandfathering old FID folks to the non expiring one but this is NJ...what is written in law is usually ignored by the class warfare system we have here and the horrible mentality and attitude of some of these LEO's and NJSP officers that think their personal bias is important and the sneers you get when you go pay the $2.
      Am I being paranoid?

Friday I had a phone call with my town's Chief of Police and he said that my application for my firearms id and two handgun permits is going to be rejected. He said the reason is because I was involuntary committed back in 2008 for two days and didn't put it on my application. (Long story short, I am not suicidal and never have been. This was just basically my being stupid and having a cry for attention then my parents overreacted and then I'm in a mental institution for two days.)  The reason I didn't put it on is because I forgot about it but that's a moot point at this stage. He also said the only other thing the investigation found was a disorderly conduct also in 2008 but nothing in the 14 years since. He said that if I plan to appeal, he's 99% sure if I explained everything to the judge and had a letter from a doctor saying that I'm not a threat to myself or others and won't be if I do have firearms, then there is a high chance I will win my appeal.  However, I am reading a bunch of court decisions and the judges are denying appeals because they answered no for the hospitalization when it was yes regardless of the circumstances.

I am debating just going to my police department first thing Monday morning and asking to withdraw my application and then just resubmit it with the commitment information on it. However, I don't know if I even have any information from my commitment. I can't even name the place where it was. I can probably get it from the police but I'm not sure.

Do you think I should just withdraw and resubmit it, even though it took 3 months from when I turned in my application until the phone call with my Chief of Police, or should I just have a meeting with my doctor or find a psychiatrist to meet and get them to write a letter saying that I'm not a threat to myself or others?

If any of you have been in similar situations, please let me know what you did and how it turned out.  I'm really burning out my brain thinking of what to do here.

I’m in the process of applying for a gun permit and was told I need a letter from a doctor or pyschiatrist that holds a MD. Dr. Pirelli has been mentioned in other posts but won’t do because he doesn’t have a MD. Is there a doctor or psychiatrist that does this type of evaluation? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I just got my FID for long guns, although I don't know anything about guns or ammo. What is a good gun to get my hands on that will help me learn more but won't break the bank, at the same time being ideal at home defense?

    • I've watched a lot of "Mighty Ships" series on TV, as well as cruise ship series. It seems prevalent for large ships to have GPS tracking, and possibly guidance. So the path of this ship should be on record somewhere. And one critical fact would be whether or not as the ship approached the bridge it followed the correct path in the harbor channel. The conspiracy aspect would ask was  one of the electronic guidance/navigation systems hacked to put it on a collision course? I'm not anxious to find a terrorist attack. But if you'd asked me on September 10, 2001 what were the odds of four hijacked aircraft being successfully flown by amateurs into three iconic American structures... I will say there's not a doubt in my mind there are nasty people that crossed the border to cause trouble. I just can't be certain how, and how much.
    • It's been reported now that there were two harbor pilots on board and 21 crewmen. The article mentions that there were no cars on the bridge when it collapsed.   Actually, divers found two people trapped in their car.  They were recovered Tuesday afternoon.
