FBI says more people are killed with hammers and clubs than with rifles

That's probably just going to make Dianne Feinsten want to ban hammers and clubs after she gets through with her attack on so-called "Assault Weapons."

BTW, has everyone written to their representatives in Congress? I had been procrastinating, and just took care of it. It's imperative that all the rest of you do the same.

EDIT: Because I'm dumb I originally looked at the total firearm rows instead of the rifle rows, so here's data that supports the author of the aforementioned article; and my foot in my mouth + apologies for poor reading

Would be nice if this article cited their sources. Here's the FBI website with supporting data.

Would be nice if this article cited their sources. Here's the FBI website which seems to say almost the opposite...while the data does also make the clear suggestion overall that firearm regulations have zero impact on the overall violent crime rate; i don't understand how that article's author came to his conclusions.

Reading is fundamental

Go to table 8

See row that says "rifle" look under 2011 it says 323

See row that says "blunt object" look under 2011 says 496

496 > 323 therefore more people killed by blunt objects than rifles.

Very simple

If you look at table 8 it clearly shows there are more murders by blunt objects than rifles every year. How is the conclusion not right?

Damn my bad...i was looking at the total firearms row...dumb by me. I'll edit my prev post

This topic was talked about on the radio this morning (NJ 101.5). What I don't get is that cigarettes kill 10's of thousands, alcohol kills innocent people everyday as a result of DWI/DUI, I may even go as far to say that even doctors kill their share because of mistakes but as far as I know cigarette companies and alcohol companies are still in business making money. I guess it has to do with large political contributions to preserve their freedom to keep doing what they are doing.

Good Question. Cigarettes and alcohol doesn't help people become self-sufficient or challenge corruption. If anything they make people dependent and stay in their hole (if addicted) under depression. And thats exactly what corrupted power wants. Its a gift that keeps on giving to those in power.

If this was EVER about public health or children, we have many areas to work to become advanced society and respecting 2nd amendment would be good start.

We should run out and buy them off the shelfs before their all gone.... and that goes for nails too.

I have one extra for you. It's a Stanley, hammer forged hammer with rubber grip. Yellow rust

resistant finish (rare!). Yours for $395 and i will throw in three boxes of 30mm nails for free.

Send me a PM.

Phew! Glad I purchased that evil black assault hammer when I did. They will be flying off the shelves soon I guess!

Oh pls... Hammers are no comparison to those eeevilll lookin big long things with "high capacity strips and clips"! They dont want those "ASSault rifles" ruining their utopianist clensing euphoria in their new vision of an equal and androgenous 'New Society'.

Lets just ban nail guns in the latest 'AWB' 4.0

The fact that nearly twice as many people are killed each year with hands fists and feet than with rifles of any type just goes to show that AWBs are complete nonsense. I remember arguing this point to people back when NJ passed theirs in the early 90's.

I also remember hearing about how thousands of people a year are estimated to die during UNNECESSARY surgery. Talk about priorities being out of whack, these people are dieing because of someone else's pure greed.

I don't know what that thing is but I want it!

Dead On Tools Annihilator

It is basically a demolition tool - a very cool looking demolition tool. Come on, it has a skull and crossbones on it, how can you resist? Someone else on the forum mentioned it and I saw one on the hook at Home Depot and grabbed it.

While true, I'd be careful pushing those numbers. While rifles are a small percentage, total firearms (and handguns specifically) are still the most prevalent weapon used. The numbers for rifles may be good for deflecting the ban on rifles by name or feature but doesn't help with other aspects like the Mag limits.
