I understand where the OP was going.

As cheap as body armor is and as easily purchased as it is, why wouldn't someone buy it? I believe some criminals may read the paper, some may see the addresses of gun owners.... Some may case those people and see them buying 3 ar's and cases of ammo. In this current state of panic they may try to add to their collection.

They strap on some armor and kick in the door with their own Ar.....

I know this may sound a bit out there, but..... Crazier crap has happened.

Fair enough Zeke...But can you explain why all the degenrate response here on the NJGF vs the National M1a fourum? Not one insult, and all thoughtful responses on the M1a forum from people all over the USA.

the other is the m1a, that is all you really need. It's utterly reliable, handy and can be used for a variety of purposes, uses the ever popular kick ass .308, and when out of ammo can be uses as a club. I have mine set up for cqb and shtf as my go to rifle

Explain this please? This is patently false and is just as bad as what some are accusing the OP of doing. Deadly force is deadly force and if it is justified, it is justified. Period. End of story. You shoot the meat the bad guys gives you after you confirm it is the bad guy you are aiming at - foot, arm, legs, head - stop the threat.

 

Maybe Combat Auto is a Drug dealer in Baltimore and he is worried about protecting the stash house from Omar!

 

The Original Post does come across as a little Mall Ninjaish but, in all seriousness, I have taken more than one bullet resistant vest from a shittum. Body Armor is out there and bad guys have it. However, in talking with them after the fact, they state that used more often in defense against the other armed shittums that are out there whom they deal with on a regular basis. They are rarely used in a home invasion or burglary against "citizens". They are more afraid of the other drug dealers and gang memebers that they associate with then the people they victimize.

 

Finally, Combat Auto, get some thicker skin. You posted a fairly silly question on the internet and when you got called out on it you got all butt hurt. Not everyone will agree with you. If you like what the guys on the M1 forum said, stay there.

CA, There is good advice right here in this thread, if you have thick enough skin to find it. No one holds all the keys to the kingdom, and good advice for one person may be poor advice to another. Only you can determine how the answers you receive will fit into your world.

 

As far as the "Classes" of response - Dude, this is the internet. You have to vet your sources, know whom you are speaking with and what their experience is. What qualifies them to answer your questions? How relevant is their information and experience? Just because the guys on the other forum are nice and say things you agree with doesn't make them the correct answers to your questions. You may be taking advice from some kid in his mom's basement wearing underoos for all you know. If you would settle down, listen, and use that empty space between your ears, you may learn something in spite of yourself.

Last year I made the decision to trust my life on the street to Second Chance body armor. I got the level IIa because it stops the most rounds. plus I got the Trauma Plate for the front.

 

What scares me is that, although I can fit an extra trauma plate in the front, I cannot fit a second one in back. As of late I have taken to duct-taping a second trauma plate to the area of my back where the heart and vital organs are located. Then I put my vest on.

 

Here is the questions. The ducttape solution, although tactically sound, is hot and painful to remove. I would like to go to the single-plate solution in back. What I am worried about is repeated hits to that area with .308 ammunition. I have a high-risk security job and I fear that I would be the target for repeated long-distance shots to my back.

 

Are any of you aware of a thicker plate that could stop, say, .338 Lapua or something like that? Is there a better way to do the second plate?

Best prevention is to cut a big hole in the floor just inside your doors and cover them with a carpet. Put something unsavory underneath. Just make sure you warn your family.

 

Best advantage you have at home is knowing the lay of the land. If I hear people coming up my stairs, I know where shooting through the walls is likely to be effective.

Thank god the government already thought of that so it will never happen!
