Applied for two handgun permits over the weekend. Both my references submitted their electronic questionnaires within 10 minutes of me submitting my application. Real swell folks.

I know I want a 1911. Was thinking of getting a Rock Island Armory based off a friend's suggestion. Good for the price, nothing crazy. Either the GI series or Rock series. Either full or medium size. Just debating the caliber. 10mm sounds pretty cool, but the price doesn't make it worth it. .45 ACP would be classic. Or I could just go 9mm and go nuts at the range.

For the price, RIA guns are impossible to beat.  45 acp or STFU

Yea, fair enough. .45 ACP it is. Just curious how long permits will take. My town was fast before the state took over. I don't need fingerprints and references are in so there's not much left to do.

My latest 1911 purchase - Kimber Custom LW in 9mm.   FFL had it listed as used, but it's never been fired.  Was too cheap to pass up.  Yes, I know Kimber has a mixed rep but I've always had good ones.  I like the two tone with contrasting controls.

If I was to go 10mm in a 1911 (which I will never do), I'd go a little higher end.  But for a budget 1911, mind as well go 45acp.  Good luck

I like my RIA models, but pay attention to the sights on some of their model lines.  The old GI-style sights I find very difficult to use at the range.  Still shoot great though, just harder to hit what I want with my old eyes.   Hard to beat a $400 1911 though.

I have an Para in .45ACP, double stack which this state run by assholes made into a paperweight! I bought that gun for 15+1 for home defense, I chose not to neuter the mags and have not bothered to buy new mags for it. My sister has all my over 10 round mags until this state reverses that dumb ass law, if ever! My night stand gun is now my single stack SIg Sauer 1911 in .45ACP.

I also have a Dan Wesson PM-9 which is a really pretty and very nice gun. A GSG 1911 for teaching newbies how to handle a 1911 but no kick with a .22. Also have an RIA 10mm which Rosie has used and out-shot me with my own gun!

Currently in my possession and registered to me, but also for sale on Gunbroker. It was once my dream 1911 and when I had the cash (thanks the stimulus package) I jumped in with both feet.  That was until I got into the CMP and G.I style weaponry.  I'm toying with the notion of listing it here, but I am too new to know how to go about such an endeavor.

Anyway, hope you like my Dan Wesson Specialist 1911 (.45ACP).  Don't mind the M16 Cigar Nubbers, that's a little business I have on the side, but if you're interested let me know (shameless plug) HAHA

Learn to reload and get both.  Para ordinance in 45 and rock island in 10mm

Very nice. But, is he still in business? From his website today:

I am overbooked and I am not able to accept
new work at this time.
Effective 2-5-2022

Of course Chuck is still in business. His work isn’t easy to come by, and getting on his books is even harder.  That said, Chuck is still trucking away!

Well then he should update his website. Or at least change the effective date.

It’s best to call him and see where he is with his backlog. He has done work for me in the past as far as machining and detail work when his books were pretty closed up.

OK, thanks. Good to know for those wanting custom 1911 work, but I won't be one of them. My curiosity was peaked by the fact I never heard of Chuck Rogers before. So when I went to his sparse website with a ton of nice pictures but zero information (or pricing!), and a 23-month-old status message I figured he must have hung it up.

Lest you think I'm a newbie, I bought our first Colt Governments in 1979. I visited Austin Behlert in NJ, and spoke to Bill Wilson in Arkansas. Behlert got the work because he was local. As a firearm newbie at that time I wasn't comfortable sending off our first 1911s to someone I couldn't shake hands with. We now know Wilson's work probably would have had more investment value, but Behlert's work was outstanding. Those two pistols fit our hands like gloves, and exceed our talents. So I haven't been in the market for custom work again.

I did buy a Dan Wesson Valor a few years ago to 'upgrade' the inventory a little and was happy with it. I just wasn't interested at this point spending $$$$ for more 'custom' guns or work like Brown, Wilson, Baer etc. Somehow I avoided hearing about Rogers. But apparently he doesn't need any advertising help, or a spiffy website. His reputation suffices. His work does look enticing. Enjoy his pistols.

Oh look, I did post a picture.

Nice to see this ole thread coming back to life. Inspired by some great smiths out there, I built this stainless CCO in 10mm.Let's add another log to the fire. Here's my lightly customized Delta. Added a match bushing, new trigger, EB beavertail, dovetail FS and original Bomar rear sight. Top was flattened and 40lpi serrations.

My last 3 purchases have been 1911's.  Dan Wesson Specialist, Wilson Combat ACP and a S&W Pro Series 3.5bbl for CCW.  The Dan Wesson and WC were the last 2 I bought from my favorite FFL before he closed shop - got them at what I consider clearance prices.  The S&W I bought because I didn't have one that size and I've since found it's a comfortable CCW when I have heavy clothing.  It trakes the place of my Kimber Micro9.
