Hog/ram hunt. *pic heavy

Recommended Posts

Well we went out for our hogs and rams last Saturday I took my step brother this time. Was his first time hunting. He's wanted to start hunting for a couple years not but his dad wouldn't let him. So i convinced him this would be a good way to see if he could actually kill before I get him too involved. Also took my father in-law who hasn't been hunting in over 40 years. Went with some friends too. Had a good time.

I love hog hunting!

I own a small ranch in Tx, a d we have a real problem with hogs. They destroy everything they touch, fences, pens, livestock feeders, ect. We go out a couple of times a year and hunt them. In Texas, it is legal to hunt hogs (considered varmints) at night, and one of my friends is trying to talk me into NVG's for night ops.

Many people hunt them with dogs and pistols. Personally, I set up a blind and hunt with AR-15's.

The smaller hogs, under 100 lbs or so, make great eating. They are good to roast whole or butcher into your favorite pork cuts.

Larger hogs we make into sausage.

Looks like y'all had a good time out there!

Cheers!

223/556? How's that work on Hogs?

http://s46.beta.photobucket.com/user/r0bb6ub9/media/DSCN0585_zpscf09d6bb.mp4.html Used a .223 with a 75gr bullet. went 5 feet and rolled. .223 is enough gun.

Sure, i dont see why not. I guess i would need to get some gear together tho. I wouldnt even know where to start...

Do i need to get a PA hunting license?

No licence required. just orange vest, hat and gun

It's a good time. For the price, these guys do it right. I was undecided about going for almost 2 years now, after talking with MosinRob about it, and his experiences there, I booked. Nothing like taking a 300lb pig with a bow ($350). They take you over to the Island in the am, the hunt takes place on the island (150 acres). Your not walking up to the pigs in a pen and shooting them, they are out on the island, roaming around.. They bring the pigs over the night before, or that morning because they will swim back to the mainland eventually, and it's a far swim. They have local butchers in the area that will come and take the hog/ram and butcher to your liking. Butcher services were reasonable, I am paying $150.00 for;

Bacon

Sausage

Hams

Ribs

Pork Chops

all cryovac'd in 1-2lb packages.

Someones gonna kill the pig and butcher it, add all kinds of chemicals and sell it to you in store. OR, you can do it yourself, load up your freezer AND be a part of the process..

bacon....

The Ram hunting looks okay, but shooting a common farm hog doesnt really interest me.

I don't know what kind of hogs these were, but feral hogs (all over the southern half of the country, and getting closer), are mean dangerous animals and relatively hard to hunt!

No license required, use any bow or gun you'd like. I'd appreciate if you could get in touch with me before saturday. Thanks

Hey Rob! I'm wondering about doing this soon, and using my Colt Walker. Did you stay overnight prior to the hunt, or just drive real early to get there?

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
