Sign at my local gun shop on the counter....."expect to wait 10 to 20 days for NJ background check to come back and you are able to pick up your gun". A month ago it took 3 days. 2 months ago it was a week and a half. It seemed like it got better for a bit, but now has gotten worse by a far margin. PA is loving the extra revenue as NJ residents go across the border and wait just a few minutes for long guns.

My brother called to see if there was any news. Was told by store it was looking like another week. I'm having a hard time not getting upset with the situation. Not at the store mind you their hands are tied. My issue lies with the state. I get it they decided to not allow ffls to use the federal nics system and opted to be a middleman. That being said you are middeman to citizens who are trying to excercise their rights. This is where when you notice that the two or three people that typically do the job are overwhelmed an you put more people on the job. It is not very complicated. Nor is the job of doing the nics check overly complicated. We arent applying for rose planting permits, we are following the assinine laws put in place to make exercising our rights most difficult. Yeah I know, I'm clapping with one hand. Just had to vent. I think I'm more frustrated with the whole situation than my brother is. I just wish that getting his first gun hadn't been like this. Your first gun should be a way better experiance on the whole.

Amen to this brother.. I will be in this current situation with my first handgun in about a week. I have been going through this situation with our first shottie.. ended up being 9 days for nics, but there was a WHOLE story behind the purchase and pickup of that shottie.. really was a very bad experience overall, but i am in the home stretch on that one (thanks Steve).. now comes the pistol whenever that gets delivered to Steve.. been so anxious about all of this, and its just more "hurry up and wait and then wait some more".. they make it so that you basically cannot use more than 1-2 permits in the 90 day time frame and maybe 3-4 in the 180 days... for those of you who remember the better times, im sure its even more frustrating for you folks..

My brother got the call and has picked up his gun. All told 10 days for the "instant check", 63 days for the fid & p2p. Lol I hadn't seen him so excited since we were kids opening presents on christmas day. He bought a .40 cal storm. Wants to buy a second one now and name them thunder and lightning. Lol a bit cheesey but I can overstand his enthusiasm.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
    • I saw Lara's interview on Bannon's War Room, and that gave me pause for thought. Her conjecture depends primarily on the veracity of her sources. Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
