308 win optic

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a cz550 american in .308 win. Just cause I had one laying around I dropped a Simmons pro sport 4-12x40 a/o scope on it and hit the range. I'll be honest I have never done the mount and zero before just shot ones pre set. Before I go nuts messing with it is that a good scope at all or should I move up? Eventually I would like to use it for wild boar. My range maxes out at 100 meters so I'd like to get decent to that. I put 20 rounds thru it today and kept it on paper but all over at 50m

100m is a pretty short distance... were you shooting on a bench/prone off hand? Maybe that explains u being all over the paper.

At 100m if you do want a scope, depending on your eyes, a 1-4 or a 1-6 should be enough for hundint boar. Hell, you might even do an RDS at those ranges and allow for the better FOV.

As far as brands, the sky is the limit... just depends on how much u are willing to spend.

If you are resting the gun the shots should never really be all over. Even if the scope is off center bull it should be consistently off and your shoots all in the same general area. If you can't achieve that you can't zero in the scope. If you try a sand bag or bipod and are still all over either scope is loose or you need a lesson ;)
