I am pondering what actually Boston PD did as far as security goes. When I was involved with EP / Security, I worked the NYC Marathon's Starting / Staging area a few years ago. I was at our HQ / CP and was doing some prelim work and later was handling comms for our 250 strong private security force. We had the NYPD / DHS K9 dogs clear all the VIP Areas, Grandstands and over 5,000 Porta-Potties and then we yellow taped all the 'sterile' areas and posted guards at these areas. I know the same was going on at the finish line as well. I guess NYC has different procedures then BPD. The proximity of these explosions has me questioning the methods ( or lack thereof) imployed here.

I know it sounds goofy, but these types of lapses piss me off. The entire Congresswoman Giffords thing was another botched security operation that never gets reported. Protocol was that she was supposed to have a security detail and was to notify the US Capitol Police and they would have arranged security or the local PD would have. IF her office followed protocol, we wouldn't have her taking the torch from Jim Brady for the next few decades.

In national moments of tragedy such as this, the nation is supposed to pull together not tear at each other over whose fault it is. You guys are the pot calling the kettle black. I am disgusted from some of the shit I am reading on here (forum in general not this thread inparticular), nothing about how horrible this act is, everyone instantly throws jabs at the president about "we should ban bombs" or "its an inside job to take away our 2A", its friggin pathetic. You all rip into the liberals for pointing the finger, got news for you, you're doing the same thing.

 

People are still bleeding and dying from this act and no one cares about who did this or the condition on those injured, they only care about using it as a political arguing point.

I kinda don't get why there was even garbage cans around. In NYC, they close off the mailboxes and flip or remove the cans on parade days. They put straps around the lamp post electrical panels and the same for the crosswalk boxes.

My hope is that the tasteless comments are a result of people not knowing how to cope with an event of this nature. I don't want to criticize how people manage their feelings but everyone should go back and review their posts and see if they truly want their comments attributed to themselves after some reflection.

 

With that said, for every coward behind an attack of this nature there are hundreds who rushed into the chaos to help. I send my sympathies to those who were injured and commend those who rushed to help before the smoke had even cleared.
