Ammo shortage forces Police use Airsoft to train!

You got to know the ammo shortage is so bad when the police turn to training with Airsoft guns as a backup. This is the first I heard of an agency using Airsoft or any alternatives to conventional firearms and ammo to training. The agency is in the Bay area of Richmond California.

 

I guess so much for the stories that the ammo shortage is easing up?

It's not due to an ammo shortage. It's just a san francisco thing. They traded in their PF 24's years ago for pink pom poms.

We use UTM for Force on Force. They fly a little faster, a little farther, and hurt a lot more, plus they are based in NJ.

Well, i sure hope you guys arent using live rounds for real time training, But i thought this was in reference to simple target training..

Reading the article there is a huge liability if you don't qualify semi or annually with duty rounds. The airsoft is for force on force I reckon.

There are half a dozen NJ depts that have been using Airsoft for years for force-on-force and Active Shooter training..it's not exactly ground=breaking

Total non-story. They aren't going to be using hollowpoints for force on force, they have to use sims or airsoft, duh!

IMO it's practical. It will help build muscle memory and train properly for force-on-force scenarios... but I see that there's an obvious difference between the real deal and training.
