Shawnmoore81 623 Posted April 30, 2013 http://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Sheriffs-Raffle-Rifle-205365191.html?_osource=SocialFlowFB_PHBrand Pa sheriff raffling off an ar-15. God knows this wouldn't happen in nj but at least it's not to far away. To bad we couldn't claim it.

voyager9 3,434 Posted April 30, 2013 Didn't NJ2AS do an AR10 raffle last year? It's not unheard of in NJ. Though, I think the key takaway here is that it's the Sheriff's Office that's hosting the raffle, not a gun dealer, range or 2A group.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted April 30, 2013 Yeah that's really what drew my attention. A rifle that is banned by name in nj is being raffled off 15 mins away.

Celraysoda 7 Posted May 1, 2013 Raffling a firearm off in NJ is prohibited by law. I believe a shooting group in Vernon does this now. My electrician won a Dan Wesson kit with four barrels.

leadunderpressure 52 Posted May 2, 2013 How does the NRA do it via auction then at the banquet each year? Isn't there usually a firearms door prize as well? Very interestng. I never heard of that statute before but this state never fails to surprise. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Soju 153 Posted May 2, 2013 I may be understanding it wrong, but that prohibited prizes only apply to licensee's. You usually need to have a license to hold a raffle, but some organizations do not need one "when the entire net proceeds of such games of chance are to be devoted to educational, charitable, patriotic, religious or public-spirited uses." Like I said though, I may be mistaken.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD The Friends of the NRA banquets don't actually deliver the firearm at the banquet and they have an auction, as opposed to a raffle or game of chance. That's how I got in trouble last one - just had to have a limited edition 1911 - cost me dearly.
