BK Panther 0 Posted May 30, 2013 Curious as to what the prices were before for various ammo before they all went up. I see decent prices every now and then but then I will see someone else post that they got better elsewhere. I just want a idea of what they used to be about a year or two ago. Post any caliber prices. Would be a good reference for others shopping too. ;-)

Wolfy 51 Posted May 30, 2013 I remember when gas was $.75 a gallon and smokes $1.75 a pack. Less then 5 years ago I could by 500 rd of Remington 9 mm for under $50 or a brick of 22's for under $10. Prices rise over time it's just a fact of life. Who is John Galt? I am so excited I figured out how to change my signature.
raz-0 1,256 Posted May 30, 2013 Last summer I paid $280 for 1000 rounds of 55 gr 5.56 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD During the peak oversupply around that time, 1000 rounds of federal xm193 could be had for between $245-280 a case of 1000, and you could snag as much as you wanted any given day. Ammo suppliers were deliberately cutting back production because that price was way too low to sustain comfortably. So they started cutting back until the price hit between $349-369 per 1k, and they didn't really ramp up for the election, much less sandy hook panic. BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted May 30, 2013 I shot some ammo I had in a old range bag a couple weeks ago. It was made by Georgia Arms. Caliber 45acp. Virgin Starline nickel brass was used. Speer gold dot 230gr bullet heads. So this stuff was made with all high grade components. The price on the bag was $12.99 for 50 rounds. I bought this stuff 8 years ago. Duppie 73 Posted May 30, 2013 I just picked up 250 rounds of Aguila 130 grain .38 special for $99.00 shipped so it works out to .39 cents a round and consider myself lucky, however when I looked in my stash,I found 4 boxes of Lellier&Bellot 158 grain I got early last year in Maine that was priced $12.99 so it comes out to .26 cents/round.... prices properly never to be seen again. Vlad G 345 Posted May 30, 2013 Well, prices always go up, you can thank the Federal Reserve if you want. When I started shooting (circa 2000) 1000rd of 9mm S&B was $110, shipped. A few years later when I started reloading my first batch of 147gr bullets where $35/1000 and primers where $12/1000. .22 was $9.xx/500. Prices have been going slowly up since I payed attention, and actually they took a break for a while. I'll bet if you graph it, today's prices are on the same curve that started back then. Besides the recent unpleasantness, ammo prices have been rising because of increased demand (range's were a LOT emptier 10-13 years ago), competition got a lot more popular (specially 3 gun), material prices have been rising (copper), and we've been in some really long wars and shot up a lot of ammo at some foreign hill sides. Plus then you have the general inflation, running around 2-3% officially (and as high as 10% unofficial). That alone adds about 35% over 10 years. It isn't just the recent thing, although that made it worse.
DirtyDigz 1,793 Posted May 30, 2013 I'm pretty sure I can dig into my receipts from 2010-2011 and find an order from Cabelas of .223 PMC bronze 55gr FMJ at $5.49/box of 20. That was the lowest I ever saw for .223 brass cased FMJ "plinking" ammo.
iCARRY 0 Posted May 31, 2013 I recently found some ammo tucked away in my safe from around 2002. I bought it at sports authority in brick. Stickers on boxes were: WWB 9mm was $6.99 for 50 WWB 40 s&w was $7.99 for 50 Winchester wildcat 22lr was $7.99 for 500 Oh yeah and I bought a standard wood stock ruger 10/22 from them for $99.99. Soju 153 Posted May 31, 2013 It is true prices go up and have been going up at a pretty consistent rate. However, after Dec 2012 we saw prices double or more in a matter of weeks, and haven't decrease a whole lot since. That is not the normal increase that would be expected. All the prices I listed were from actual purchases within the past 365-545 days.
RobertJames 14 Posted May 31, 2013 I was buying Remington UMC 9mm 500 round cases for $80 or $90 not too long ago at the place everyone loves to hate. .45's were about $150 per 500 rounds.
