Need help with ruger standard

When I pull the bolt back and flip the safety...the bolt will not lock back

 

 If I hit the trigger to dry fire..then hit safety bolt will lock, and can not be pulled back

Local gunsmith who checked this out told me it was normal...

 

However the manual and a bunch of you tube videos show

That the bolt is supposed to lock in the open position (TO inspect the chamber) if I pull it back and hit the safety.

 

What am I missing???

Ok that looks like a mki sorry I have no experience with this gun the mkii and newer have a bolt release on them that holds the bolt when flipped up and on last shot

I do not think the bolt locked back on those older MK1's on the MK3's there is a lever on the left side right above the trigger to hold the bolt open and I do not see that on yours.

Hopefully someone with more experience with the older rugers will chime in to confirm.

The Mark1 has no bolt open. You have to use the safety. The twos and threes do hold open on the last shot but will not stay open if the mag is out of the gun.

That is a Ruger Standard - it's not a MKI,II or III.

The Standard of that period operated like the Mark 1 so the bolt does not stay open after the last shot. You have to use the safety to hold open. I have them along with later models.
