My grandfather brought this dagger back with him after WWII. I don't know the story of how he came by it as he passed away nearly 30 years ago. I've been researching these daggers off and on for a couple months as my parents may be interested in selling it.

Do any of you know of anyone who deals in these that I can trust?

I know they can be very valuable so I'd like to get as much as possible for my parents if they do decide to sell. Any suggestions of contacts would be greatly apppreciated!

Old boss of mine was one of the biggest collectors in the world. It's worth more if you know who's knife it was and have a little info on the guy

Unfortunately it's not a numbered dagger, although there is a shallow engraved number on the pommel that I suspect is the soldiers SS number, but I have no way of knowing for sure

I'm pretty sure the knife was made in 1934, if you didn't already figure that out. Looks to be an early model SS Standard 1933 Dagger. From quick research, apparently the makers mark 121 is unidentified.

Maybe try emailing these guys some pictures and getting an experts opinion....

Yes, the 121 indicates a contract number from an unknown maker and the 34 is for 1934 production.

I am planning to email the website above once I get some better photos.

I really need yo get an expert evaluation before moving forward on any sale. The price range I've seen on these how's from $1k at the low side up to $2500 so I need to know what this one is worth.

I think it looks original from the pics but it is hard to tell 100%.It is missing the chain/hangar. That will hurt the value some if it is indeed real. The dagger looks like the blade was scrubbed at some point and that is a big turnoff to a advanced collector and hurts the value a lot. There are also many faked WW2 German items, I have seen just about everything, so you buy the piece not the story. I am not doubting your story though. If it is real and you want to sell it I could point you to a place where you would probably get the most for it.You most likely will not get good money for it at a show. Keep in mind that Items like this are sometimes better off if the are kept in the family.

Ok so the Swiss 1889 is technically an antique in most of the country but NJ is complex for no reason. It has a 12 round magazine which was on uncommon for the time and it is detachable so you can clean it and replace damaged magazines. It's a bolt action and versions of the magazine were used in the 1896 which was an improvement to the 1889 and a small 6 round magazine similar to the 12 round magazines were used in 1900 and 1905 short rifles. Also if it matters you can't get 7.5x53.5 ammo unless you reload for it. Some people have modified the 1911 series of Swiss guns (also bolt actions just new guns using the new ammo 7.5x55) to use these magazines cause they wanted 12 rounds instead of the standard 6 round magazines. Now is it legal? Like I am not getting one if I have to pin a magazine that is worth like $150 cause of 2 rounds

    • This mindset baffles me. Shooting is a depreciating skill. If you don't practice, you will become worse at it. If you value your life enough to want to defend it, why would you rely on a skill that you don't practice? If the best I can do on a good day is scrape a pass on CCARE, I would be determined to get better at shooting - and yes I did see that you scored 98% - but your attitude appears to be that you shouldn't have to practice first. Trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, perhaps you mean that the government should not mandate that you have to meet any kind of standard before you can carry. I agree. There should not be any mandated quals. However, only a fool would be carrying a gun he can't use effectively. It does little to protect himself and creates a danger to everyone else because the misses will go on to hit something or someone after they miss the intended target.
    • OK let me explain. If you use your 9MM to qualify you will probably need to practice before you qualify so you go through 125 rds of ammo. Using expensive 9mm ammunition that's probably close to $0.40 around is costly. If you used your .22 LR pistol the price drops to less than 10 cents a round. I easily qualified with my Glock 226  ( 1 miss out of 50) but burned up  a lot of ammo practicing. We should not be required to qualify to exercise a constitutional right and it should not cost a few hundred dollars to do so.
    • Up for sale a Nikon Monarch 1.5-4.5X20 Riflescope. Scope formerly sat on top of my old Mini 14, so it is used. It also has some aftermarket lens covers on them (Buffalo Creek I believe). I'm asking $100 for the scope. Willing to drive within an hour of Woodbridge or meet half way. Buyer pays any shipping costs. First to post "I'll take it" wins the scope.
    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
