I will be heading from JFK airport to Cape May on Sunday morning.

 

Which is the fastest way to get there?

 

Parkway all the way down, or take the NJTP down toward the bottom , and then cut across South Jersey?

Stay away from the NJTP. Its full of construction and Troopers. 

 

Take 287 to 440 south to the parkway.

How will the traffic be on the GSP

 

It is supposed to be a warm, sunny weekend, and I do not want to get stuck in 100 miles of Bumper to bumper traffic.

traffic cannot be avoided at busy travel times. Day  itself and time you leave play a big part of that. if you can, leave at an awkward time of day. By that i mean late night or super duper early am. if you drive here friday afternoon and leave sunday afternoon, traffic is inevidable

Sunday morning the traffic will mostly be northbound. Friday GSP South backups can start as far north as exit 123/Rt 9.

Sunday morning usually not that bad, I say usually because you just never know. Sunday morning depending on what time early Sun will be good as it gets later the traffic builds!!

Verazzano to GSP all the way down. Sun all the shoobs and bennies will be headed N, so you will be going counter to most of the crowds. Enjoy Cape May!

So I figure 8:30 am  or so at the "decision point" by the Raritan bridge area.

The traffic jams  have improved somewhat with the added lanes on the GSP.  I'd definitely give the GSP a go.

If you have a iPhone I recommend the Waze app. It's social GPS so it'll give you a pretty decent idea of which route is best based on how many other people are sitting in traffic along the route.

I drove up to milepost 124 today(buying a gun from another NJGF member), and back home with no real serious traffic. Took about 1.75 hours up, 1.5 hours home.

I often go to the shore from Bergen county on Sundays at about 7 am.  There is no traffic to talk about on GSP.
