Trigger finger placement?

Recommended Posts

OK, here's a real noob question. I have owned and shot my 10/22 for many years, but now that I'm becoming more of a gun ho and a shooter, I started wondering what part of my finger to use when squeezing a trigger? It feels more comfortable around the second joint (from the tip) for me. Is there a 'correct' place?

distal joint is a bad habit. For most shooters on most guns it will cause you issues that you can mask to an extent, but it causes issues. however, for certain ergonomic situations it is the best woraround for a gun that doesn't actually fit you well. Traditionally, it is the pad of the distal phalange of the index finger, preferably near the center. For me, the best spot is left side of the trigger lines up with the centerline of the pad. But I have big hands and long fingers.

The actual general case is that you want the part of the finger that can actuate the trigger with the minimum camming action for the length of trigger travel of that gun held in your hand in the manner that produces a good sight picture wiht a natural point of aim.
