1911 Grip Bushing Problem

Recommended Posts

So... I guess I done messed things up pretty good...

Here is what has happened with my 1911. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a Wilson Combat "slip on" magwell for my Kimber TLE custom II. The following occured while I was re-installing the grips.

  • It looks as though one of the bushings cross-threaded and would no longer accept the screw properly
  • When i tried to remove the screw, the bushing came out with it
  • While attempting to remove the bushing from the screw with needle nose pliers, I royally messed up the bushing

So now I have no bushing in the top right side of my gun, and thus no screw.

What do I do? Does a gun-smith need to install a new bushing?

Does anyone have a recommended gunsmith in the central NJ area I can bring this to?

Thanks.

Mach16 --  You trying to shoot tomorrow?  OBRPC steel?  I'll bring a grip screw bushing if your in need --

As for fixing your gun --  I'm in Middlesex, go to Dunellen everyday -- I'm pretty sure I've got a few grip screw bushings to get you by till you can order replacements.

Let me know,  we can meet at my shop in Dunellen and get it fixed up --  Worst case is you need to order bushings and screws.

I've never seen a press on bushing, but that doesn't mean they don't exists -- I'd have to take Tony's word for it and I believe he knows what he's looking at

Send me a PM with a phone # if you need help,  Jer

Tony posted a pic as I was typing...  looks like a threaded bushing that's been tacked

I have some extra grip bushings from my Colt as well.  I stripped up one and bought a 4 pack.

Threading it in was fairly easy. Threw some loctite on it and took it slow.  I'll be off Monday and Tuesday, let me know if you need one.

First off... wow... Thanks everyone for the help! I'm so glad I found NJGF last year, you guys all rock.

As for answering some questions...

I looked at the other bushings... I really cant tell if they're staked, but the empty hole and bushing I messed up are threaded. And I'm definitely sure that they're not welded.

Both of these handguns have literally zero rounds through them. I wish i was lying, these were both random purchases in the past not thinking of use or need. Both come in their respected boxes with everything that came with them. The Canik does come with a tlr-3 just because it fits well and i have a tlr-1 hl on my glock and my walther pdp pro.
      First pistol is a Armscor M1911 A2 45 ACP. Comes with one magazine.(10rd) $380.00
      Second is a Canik TP9SF Elite 9mm Comes with Two Magazines(10rd) $370.00
Cash/Paypal Sorry no trades. All transfers made via NJ FFL. All local laws apply. Buyer pays transfer fees at FFL. My FFL Is Louie GS In Secaucus(I live in bergen co)
Prices are final and non negotiable.
First Come first serve(I’ll take it) will update as needed.

      Hello,
I am new here and looking to sell my two hand guns (I have another post for a Glock G19 GEN5 that will have a description very similar to this post).

This post is for a Browning 22 1911 Black Label with fiber optic sights that I purchased new from Firearms Support and Storage June of 2019. I have used it a total of two times at RTSP in Union NJ and in it's lifetime it has shot only 390 rounds down range.
It comes with 2 10 round clips magazines - I have not used it since prior to covid, so I will give it the best cleaning I can before the sale.

The price is $400 plus FFL transfer fees.
If you have questions or if I can share any other photos, please let me know.
The first to post "I'll take it" wins the sale
      Thank you!

Can anyone recommend a forward grip/ handle for my AR? Right now I just wrap my hand around the hand guard which has I believe is an MLOK mounting. I feel as though I need something to brace and hold on to during shooting. I don’t want a full vertical grip hanging down, I think that would be too much. I’ve seen small ones for sale but figured I’d ask here first because of the experienced users here. Of course want it as light it can be.

Also my Aimpoint H-2 is finally coming this week from optics planet. Not sure how I got it so cheap. I think I was able to add two coupons somehow and got %26+ off. Paid little under $400. Didn’t need the T-2. Don’t plan on any night stuff at all.

      Thanks fellas,
      Mike from Jersey
