Kind of curious. Btw the mayor of this town is is Bloomberg's gang of mayors and he was looked at to be buono's running mate. Shawnmoore81 623 Posted August 5, 2013 You can use hand gun ammo in quite a few carbines. I can't see that being the reason. That would be a real stretch too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Bob2222 316 Posted August 5, 2013 Maybe it was just one round rolling around the back of his car or truck. If it had been a whole "brick" of .22 HPs, he might have been charged with 500-1000 felonies.

tony357 386 Posted August 5, 2013 It was a traffic stop, he was in violation of traffic laws say speeding or something stupid, he can be charged with having hollow point bullets because he was unlawful. I have mentioned this before in other threads just plain sucks on how they can charge you for hollow point ammunition.
ryan_j 0 Posted August 5, 2013 Just use hornady critical duty or critical defense. They are not hollow points under NJ law. Personally I see no reason to use hollow points in NJ unless you want to make a point by getting arrested.

So being pulled over for speeding on way to range can make you a felon in this state?
BlueLineFish 615 Posted August 5, 2013 So being pulled over for speeding on way to range can make you a felon in this state? No. Because going to the range is a lawful reason to transport hp ammo.

mipafox 438 Posted August 5, 2013 Mmm he had it right before you fixed it. Nope. Jon had it right: I'm willing to bet he was in possession of hollow point ammunition outside the listed exemptions in NJ law. Crazy, I know. You are only allowed to possess hollowpoints in NJ under certain exceptions to the law. When people go around talking about "transport" laws they make people think they can have guns or hollowpoints but just have to be careful about how they put them in their car. Nothing could be further from the truth. You are not allowed to have them in the first place, unless you meet an exception.
richtr186 0 Posted August 6, 2013 Ok so hollow points are not allowed in NJ? Forgive my ignorance but its only been a year since ive been here.. What about jacketed hollow points? Cabelas sells the Winchester JHPs and when you look at them they dont have the typical hollow point look (as its jacketed). So whats everyone use for defensive rounds?
ryan_j 0 Posted August 6, 2013 All hollow nosed bullets are legal in NJ ONLY under exemptions - home, place of target practice, place of business, or gunsmith. In fact you CANNOT move them to another home you own/lease, as we found out in The Aitken case. Yes jacketed hollow points are hollow nosed bullets. Yes the prohibition is on bullets not cartridges, so an inert cartridge like a keychain can get you arrested. The alternative is to use a hollow nose bullet with a polymer tip like powrball or critical duty. These are ok under nj law.

ryan_j 0 Posted August 6, 2013 The law doesn't say "full metal jacket." It only says that hollow nose ammo is banned. If the nose is plugged it's not hollow anymore. The state police firearms unit seems to agree.
