Uberti vs taylors vs cimarron

Recommended Posts

I'm in the market for a single action 1873 cattleman style revolver. I like Uberti's El Parton which Taylor's calls the Smoke Wagon and Cimarron calls the Evil Roy. Which is the best. I like the color case hardened frame and blued cylinder, barrel, and lower frame. Taylors seems to be lacking in the color case hardening finish.

Everything comes from Italy.  Taylor's is an Importer, and so is Cimarron.  Each order thousands of units per year, so they each get some "special treatment", such as allowing the ordering of case-hardening, special finishes (like the Charcoal Blue of my Son's Colt 1860 Army with fluted cylinder) and the like.  It is widely known that Cimarron demands the highest quality control, and therefore their guns are sought-after, so the price is slightly higher than Taylor's.  All of my Cap-N-Ball Revolvers are Uberti's and were imported by Taylor's.  Fit and finish are excellent!

Here's how I look at the slight differences:  If Cimarron oders say 100 units of type X and Uberti knocks-out 150, Cimarron gets the best 100.  The other 50 go to places like Taylor's.  Are they all the same?  Maybe some days they ARE, and the boxes just get shipped to different Importers.  The quality control these days is exceptional, so it's awfully hard to buy a bad Uberti!

FWIW:  When Colt reintroduced some of their old Cap-N-Ball revolvers, they shipped all of the parts to Uberti in Italy for inspection and assembly!  So the third generation Colts are all made right along side the rest of the Uberti's.....

Friend of mine has a Cattleman in .45 LC and it's a SWEET shooter!

You can't go wrong with an Uberti!

Thanks Dave. Have you been to range 14 (fort dix)? I noticed you dont live far.

I've been to Dix Range 14 just twice.  Not "in love" with target changes every 20 minutes.  Takes too long and my rhythm gets interrupted.  Much prefer to go to Old Bridge!  If you ever want to go let me know...
