Started doing some shopping at some local stores and I found a para expert for $450. Would I be foolish to pass up a 1911 at that price?

Para & remington 1911 look kind of bland compared to the improvements to the 1911 these days.

Check out the Kimber 1911 site. It's yummy.

Kimber to me is just another 1911 with a higher price tag for shiny pistol. I wouldn't waste a penny for a Kimber, I would rather buy a glock.

All a Kimber is looks, performance is shady. To spend money on shiny things, I would rather buy a S&W 1911 for that price or a Springfield.

I understand your position. When you compare a kimber to an ed brown or a wilson, you'll think you have just scored big.  Everything is relative. I myself would not spend $2K+ on a 1911.  Now about comparing a glock to a 1911.  A 1911 sings to you, begs you to hold her, hold her, & never never let her go....   S&W & springfiled 1911s are also awesome.  S&W also charges big $$$ for their performance 1911s

In a 1911, you get what you pay for. For those that have heard my speach before, skip it.

1911's were designed at a time labor was cheap and technology was expensive. Rooms full of talented old men assembled them carefully and they were built from the correct spec materials. Fast foward to today and the opposite is true, tech is cheap and labor is expensive. So manufacturers try and skirt this fact by building production 1911's in a production (assembly) environment with as little fitting as possible. The more fitting done, the better materials used, the more expensive the 1911 you end up with. Now I understand scale economics. The more ,insert part here, you buy the better deal you will get. But that only goes so far. And then if you have a company that wants to save whatever amount over tens of thousands of said part, then you can end up with less than ideal parts inside. Anyway I can tell you that just the parts alone in my 1911 builds cost well over 1k. Thats with ZERO labor. Look at a sprinfield 1911 loaded model. Then look at a springfield professional. Why is it roughly 4x more expensive. It has the same number of parts right? As I said, the better the parts and the more hand labor involved, the higher the price.

I will also like to add that price/cost and value are not synonomous. What I place a value on is unique to me. Things I value and are willing to pay for may hold no value at all for another. If you shoot a box a year, and truly dont care if you have a failure here and there, you likely will not see the value. For me, I shoot a 1911 better than anything else so that is my choice platform. I know that a true quality 1911 built right from the best parts is expensive and readily accept that. I see the value for me and I am willing to pay for it. Each individual needs to figure out what their point of diminished returns is. But you should ideally understand what those differences are. Its likely not just the price tag. A Ferrari and a Hyundai probably have about the same number parts, but clearly they arent the same cost or value.

+1; Glock's are Souless; 1911's are Iconic....All in fun of course.....I met a ret-Cop at the USPSA match Sunday shooting a Glock. He put it nicely: "I would like to afford a STI, or some custom gun, but for now I know my Glock is fine, I pull the trigger and it goes Bang".

So I replied, "That is 90% of it". :-)...Still, there is nothing like a 1911 for pushing the envelope in pistol performance. I have a Sig, Kimber, and Wilson, 1911s each at distict price/performance points. If funds were limited, I would pick the Kimber as the best trade-off of price/performance. - NUFF Said ;-)!

That seems really cheap I am guessing its used how much used is the question. I would definitely take a look at it and see if you can at least field strip it at the shop or have them do it and take a close look at the parts

I asked that. It apparently is new. They said it has just been sitting there and they are sick of looking at it.

I was thinking of a different gun but it still seems like a good deal I did a quick search and they seem to be going for around 550 so 450 is a good price if you like it go for it

I wanted to finally thank everyone for their input on the matter of which .45 ACP handgun to get. Although I am still waiting for my license and handgun permit to be finalized for the 4th week in a row of it sitting on the Chief's desk. I do suppose I have read worse stories than mine.

I believe as long as it is still available I will be getting the FNH FNX 45 (hopefully in full black). I really do look forward to joining the ranks of those who actually own a damn firearm.

Take care all. And for those suggesting the 1911...don't worry it will soon be part of my yet to begin collection. I just need to muddle through the masses and choose which one.

The poll is about 45ACP and not 1911's. Sorry but I'll stick with my Glock 21SF and 30S

I didn't think it was too 1911 heavy. Not too many Glock mentions though.

I just wish they were better looking guns. I'm in the market for a range gun. Something that I like to look at and will make me want to shoot.

That's fine. I was looking for something dependable, long lasting, easy to clean and relatively inexpensive, and easy to conceal carry.Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Conceal carry, there is a pipe dream for me. And most of us.

I would go with a Smith & Wesson M&P 45.

Out of your list, I would probably I'd go with the Remington R1 or the Ruger.  The new AutoOrdnance Thompson 1911 looks pretty nice, too, check it out.

M&p 45 is striker fired correct? I have tried and don't really like the trigger feel on them. Unless it was just a crappy one that I had my hands on.

I just purchased the FNH fnx 45 recently. Loving it to death. Still need practice with that DA pull. Grip is nice. A little sharp though. I'm learning to control it. I'm a totally new shooter with no instruction yet. Which makes me rife with bad habits from video games hahaha.

I now need to take the time and think of my next move. Either handgun or rifle. Handguns are a 1911 or a Sig. Rifles is much more complicated and I would have to decide on a caliber first, 22lr to shoot and shoot and shoot or go up to an AR. I still want a 30 cal rifle but that would probably have to wait.

Both of these handguns have literally zero rounds through them. I wish i was lying, these were both random purchases in the past not thinking of use or need. Both come in their respected boxes with everything that came with them. The Canik does come with a tlr-3 just because it fits well and i have a tlr-1 hl on my glock and my walther pdp pro.
      First pistol is a Armscor M1911 A2 45 ACP. Comes with one magazine.(10rd) $380.00
      Second is a Canik TP9SF Elite 9mm Comes with Two Magazines(10rd) $370.00
Cash/Paypal Sorry no trades. All transfers made via NJ FFL. All local laws apply. Buyer pays transfer fees at FFL. My FFL Is Louie GS In Secaucus(I live in bergen co)
Prices are final and non negotiable.
First Come first serve(I’ll take it) will update as needed.
