alec.mc 180 Posted November 27, 2013 My fist run of tumbling ever. I picked up a slightly used thumler tumbler on arfcom for 100 bux. 200 rounds of 9mm bling looks good, but damn - just 200 rounds you ran? How many rounds of 45 will that thing hold ? carl_g 568 Posted November 27, 2013 I need to play around with it. The instructions say 230 pieces of 9mm with 5 lbs of media and a gallon of water. Max weight is 15 lbs. I have read people doing 300 9mm with 5 lbs, I have also read people cutting the media in half and running 500 pieces. So I have some experimenting to do. I am totally new to reloading and just have a lee turret press so, I wont be churning out large amounts of ammo for a while. the seperator is just a simple Franklin arsenal thing that fits over a 5 gal bucket. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/731116/frankford-arsenal-standard-media-separator?cm_vc=subv1183204
Heavyopp 167 Posted December 1, 2013 Kinda warm tonight -- Been out in the garage working on my 1st 8" drum -- Bought enough fittings to make 4 of them -- 5 agitators looks right...

alec.mc 180 Posted December 1, 2013 8" drum? jeebuss... Rarely do I find the need to tumble every peice of brass I own. nor the patience to de-prime all of them first.
Heavyopp 167 Posted December 1, 2013 I just did that 30 pound swap of 223 for 9mm -- I don't think I'll be able to fit them all but I'll give it a try -- Plus I want to know how it works I'm thinking of putting together a double drum tumbler with two 8" drums -- see if I can sell it -- I need a drum 1st to design the tumbler around Then I'm building a quadcopter from scratch... NickC 23 Posted December 1, 2013 Then I'm building a quadcopter from scratch... NICE! I was thinking about that too. But might as well build a hex. Much more stable.
Heavyopp 167 Posted December 1, 2013 But might as well build a hex. Much more stable. More lifting power but I'm not so sure a hex is more stable -- I haven't read anything to support that but I am still learning -- so much to process

Heavyopp 167 Posted December 1, 2013 Go Big or go home...LOl.. I might just have to make one out of an old dryer drum!! HAHAHA... Tony, I have 10" and 15" pipe -- could really get big -- but the fittings for that stuff will run in the hundreds per fitting
tony357 386 Posted December 1, 2013 it does get expensive when the pipe gets large, i use 6 inch pipe for my shrink wrap gun extension to store it, the pipe, end cap, end cap and plug ran me 95.

Heavyopp 167 Posted December 6, 2013 Here are some pictures of the 8" drum -- finished and a load running now... 8" next to the 6" Filled to this level is exactly 3 gallons of water Almost 35 pounds with just water... A little over 18 and a half pounds of de-primed 9mm brass -- I have no idea how many are in there Fills the 8" drum about halfway A little more than 20 pounds of media Almost 50 pounds without liquid -- It's filled to there -- water and the detergents filled almost to the top
Heavyopp 167 Posted December 6, 2013 Capped ready to roll -- Almost 72 pounds total -- I ended up cutting the 6" portion of the reducer fitting down an inch so I could put a piece of 6" pipe in -- Did this so the rubber fernco cap would fit easier -- The cap fits easily over 6 " pipe -- it was a real wrestling match to get it over the actual reducer fitting -- nothing like how the 4" fits on the 6" drums On the machine, running -- the machine didn't even hesitate to start with the 72 pound drum on there -- should be no issues
