Staten Island is one of the five boroughs of NYC, I believe they refer to it as the forgotten borough.

Frank is correct. NYC is not just Manhattan even though it's referred to as the city by all. Manhattan, Brooklyn, queens, Bronx and staten island are a ll NYC boroughs.

 

If it wasn't the city, I think NY owes me a hell of a lot in city tax.

 

Don't confuse it with long island which is not part of NYC and you can shoot trap etc... Pretty impossible to get to LI without going the NYC at some point, even if only a mile or two.

Yup, people always forget Staten Island.

 

My mother (native Brooklynite who moved to Staten Island for a decade) told me a fun fact: Staten Island is actually closer to NJ than NY and its ownership was originally disputed.

 

The only reason it's city property and not NJ is because they had a boat race, winner gets the island, and the NY boat won.
