American flag disposal

Hey guys I have a beat up American flag I need to dispose of what is the proper way to due this.

They are not to easy to find but I use a drop box at a VFW that is a flag disposal service. Its just an old mailbox that they have out front. Call your local VFW they may know where one is around you.

X2. Your local American Leigon or VFW will take care of it for you. Just drop it off . Most have a mail box for old flags right near the front door

Not sure where your located but I know in Lambertville there is a drop off box(old mailbox) by City Hall. If your not near there then as others stated check with your local VFW.

I think the Boy Scouts take in old American Flags to dispose of properly.

My town has a drop box right inside the door of the municipal building for flags (Wall Township).

US Flag Code. TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > Sec. 8(k). It states:

"The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning"

Precisely. It's always how I was taught to dispose of an old, worn out US flag, back in my scout days. It's a pity that we now even have to consider something like a "flag burning" amendment. I guess they better get the "language" on that juuuuuussst right!

Ive always burned them.  The first time you do it it feels dam weird.  I refuse to fly a tattered flag and I feel naked if I am not flying one.  Retiring a weathered flag is just about an annual event at my house.
