Through all my research, posting, questions and answers I have received about choosing my firearm (FNX 45) and my ammunition (anything cheap,  :sarcastichand: ) but I neglected to think about what I'll be shooting at while at the range.

So, what do you shoot at?

I know some of the range targets I've shot at don't really do a good job of showing what I just hit. Especially the all gray photos type that they had with the zombie on the back. Can't see shit with that side.

I like the VTAC targets. I use them for everything when teaching except qualifying (we are mandated to use FBI Qtargets for all quals).

For hand guns, the B-27's and B-34's at PPC league.  And clay birds on the berm at 25 and 50 yards.

Also like my re-setting steel popper!

For rifles I like the SR-1 100 yard rifle targets at 100 yards and the B-6 50 yard slow-fire target.  At 20 yards I like to cut playing cards in half, blow-up fruit and veggies, cut string, blow-up charcoal briquettes, hit gongs, hit thumbtacks, and blow-up 1 liter bottles filled with colored water!

I'm going through the Winchester Pistol Qualification - Made Pro-Marksman, working on Marksman. So, right now, 9" Paper plates :D

But I just bought a bunch of AP-1 and AP-2 paper targets for Marksman 1st Class and Sharpshooter.

I start out with the ez2c targets that they sell at all the gun shows in PA it seems. $20/120 including tax. When they get shredded up too much, I stick a pop n glo over the top of them, either an 11 3/4" bullseye at 100yds or 8" for anything else. They are a little bit fragile in that they can get scratched up if you treat them roughly, but they are self adhesive and hits are very visible. And they are way cheap for a high visibility target. Like $20 something for 100.

Not a paper target, the range is the Ridgeway Rifle Club in Ridgeway, PA, Homer is at 982 yards. During the season, we have monthly silhouette matches.

It's an amazing range, www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpxPglKkFvQ.

I'm missing the normal shooting season.

Looks like a pretty good deal for a decent steel target with stand.  Can always replace the target once you shoot it up.  3/8 inch.  Regular price $80, on sale for $49.99 and free Prime shipping.  Shipped and sold by Amazon so if it is crappy quality I am fairly sure they will stand behind it.

I have my Aimpoint red dot zeroed in perfectly at 25 yards. I finally got the chance to shoot my second rifle outside at 50 yards. Red dot easily seen, but EVERY hole was a few inches above where the red dot was at. I know there must be a technical explanation on this and if I set my red dot below where I want the bullet to go it will go into the bulls eye. Is there a good site I can read on the technical aspects on how all that works? I didn't think a difference of 25 yards would be so great, and I certainly do not nor expect everyone zeroes their red dot all the time if they change distances. Just looking to learn and understand better.

25 yards using a small pistol target with only iron sites. Very first time on the range with it. I can count all 15 bullet holes. And boy do I love shooting the rifle! I won't deny my pistols trigger time, but it is hard not to want to shoot a powerful rifle. I ordered an Aimpoint micro red dot H2 for it. Comes with the standard picatinny mount but I'm not sure if the optic is going to be sitting high enough to clear my iron backup site in front of it. Either I'll just remove the front iron site or see if I can find a mount that lifts the optic up just a little bit. I like low profile and don't want the optic sitting up in the air, but heck, it may even be easier to shoot and won't have to put my head into such a position. Anyone recommend a good mount that will clear the Magpul backup sites? I was eye balling this one hard.

I've always just hacked something together to shoot at when I felt like shooting. A scrap piece of plywood leaning on a couple of cinder blocks, a paper target stapled to a 2x4 post driven into the dirt, or a target taped to an old 5 gallon bucket worked fine.

I bought a decent target .22 handgun for my 14 year old daughter to shoot several months ago and finally built a real target to shoot at.

I'm interested in new ideas to improve my little back yard range and wondered what others here have built for themselves.

Here's mine. The plywood slides into the frame from the top and can be replaced once it's shot-out. I'm using 1/4" luan but it will take up to 3/4" ply. The gongs are 8", 6", and 4". The spinner is an old one I built years ago that I could stomp into the ground re-purposed.

      Now let's see yours.
