Cherry Hill - new Chief of Police - opportunity for OEC?

Recommended Posts

Cherry Hill just announced a new Chief of Police, Capt. William "Bud" Monaghan.  I was wondering if anyone knows him personally or knows anything about him.  We're hoping he's 2A friendly, but he hasn't been tested, yet, to my knowledge.  As you guys probably already know, for FID/PPP, Cherry HIll currently requires an illegal and frustrating consent form for next-of-kin (aka Spousal Consent Form) and they also require both the next-of-kin (normally the spouse) and both references to have their forms notarized before they are accepted.  I was typically getting (relatively reasonable) 2-3 month turn-arounds on my requests, but this time I didn't place any status calls along the way, just to see how long it would take.  I submitted my forms in July (and my references got their forms back right away) and I have yet to hear from the PD so far (as of 12/9/13).  If this new Chief of Police is more 2A friendly than his predecessor, we may have some opportunity for an easy and amicable outcome with NJ2AS's Operation Establish Compliance (OEC) which has not taken on Cherry Hill, so far.   http://www.cherryhill-nj.com/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=418

Posted on: December 9, 2013 Mayor names new Chief of the Cherry Hill Police Department

(Cherry Hill, N.J.) – Capt. William “Bud” Monaghan has been named the next Chief of the Cherry Hill Police Department, Mayor Chuck Cahn announced this morning.

Monaghan succeeds current Chief Rick DelCampo, who will retire on Dec. 31 after 36 years with the force and three and a half years leading the department as chief.

“It has been my privilege to work with and alongside Chief DelCampo,” Mayor Cahn said. “I want to thank him for his dedication to public service and his steadfast leadership.”

Monaghan, who will assume his new post on Jan. 1, joined the department as a patrol officer in 1995, and will be Cherry Hill’s tenth police chief. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and Justice from Rowan College and a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Training and Development from Seton Hall. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command. Monaghan rose through the Department as a Detective, Sergeant and Lieutenant before being promoted to Captain in 2011.

“We are excited about the future of our Police Department under Captain Monaghan’s leadership,” Mayor Cahn said. “Bud has the important combination of experience, knowledge and a high level of dedication that make him the ideal person for this job, and that have earned him respect and trust within the Department. Township Council and I look forward to working with him.”

Monaghan is currently head of the Department’s Administrative Division, where he has spent the last several years supervising, managing and coordinating police operations, including the Office of Emergency Management.

“I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity to lead the men and women of the Cherry Hill Police Department,” Monaghan said. “I look forward to continuing to run a strong and efficient department and know that public safety is a top concern to every resident of Cherry Hill.”

Ok, I'm losing my mind about my "Catholic" parish, Christ Our Light (formerly St. Peter Celestine) on Kings Hwy in Cherry Hill, and the way they're handling political events.  This is the third time in less than a year that they've endorsed radical, anti-2nd Amendment rallies or events held by the lunatic, leftist, ultra-liberal Universal Unitarian Church of Cherry Hill which is just across the street.  Today I received Christ Our Light's e-newsletter and the attached picture is from a screenshot at the bottom of the newsletter.  I've previously emailed them or had personal discussions letting my disagreement and disgust be known to the pastor and other priests and staff and I did the same immediately after receiving this email as well.  Does anyone have any other suggestions for how to handle a radical church/pastor such as mine, short of leaving (due to the convenience, it was my parish growing up, and my kids are enrolled in CCD there and really enjoy the program and seeing their friends there)?

I will get to the ammo in a second...

A lot can be said about the various 2nd Amendment groups within the state of NJ, along with those on a national level.  In a perfect world they would join forces, put aside differences, and strive to move NJ to be more in line with the rest of the country in regards to 2nd Amendment rights & freedoms.  But whether or not you agree with any particular groups tactics or methods, these are the people who are fighting our battles for us.

NJ2AS is running a "matching donation" event till January 2nd, 2016.  This was sent out as an email blast which can be seen below.

Depending on your caliber of choice three boxes of ammo is roughly $30 to $45 (re-loaders aside).  Instead of spending that money on more ammo, this should be viewed as an opportunity to help further the cause of a 2nd Amendment group in NJ.  And with matching donations, your giving twice the assistance.

I have "put your money where your mouth is" by making a $45 donation, and I ask of you to do the same.  New Jersey Gun Forums could be a powerful force if we could stand together.  I am hoping this is a start.

The Email from NJ2AS is pasted below:

      ================================

2015 has been an excited year of activism for the NJ2AS. We are quickly becoming known as the "Pit Bulls" for the Second Amendment in NJ and rightfully so. Instead of shifting blame and pointing the finger we are attacking the problem and standing up for our rights without compromise.

Locally and nationally people are recognizing our activism but we need your help and support to continue to defend our civil rights. Unlike the unAmericans who hate our freedoms and rights we do not have billionaires like Soros and Bloomberg funding our campaigns.

The attacks against us will get worse in 2016 so that is why I need your help. The ability to continue and expand our activism and programs rely solely on your donations.

A group of generous donors have agreed to match your donation till January 2, 2016! This is an incredible opportunity and I hope we can depend on your support to make 2016 even more amazing!

Also, anyone who makes a $150+ donation will receive a signed copy of Brian Aitken's book, The Blue Tent Sky, AND a signed copy of Alan Gottlieb's book, Shooting Blanks: Facts Don't Matter to the Gun Ban Crowd. This offer is only available to the first 20 donors.

You can donate by clicking the DONATE tab at the top right corner of this e-mail or by visiting: http://NJ2AS.com/Donate

I hope I can count on you for your support!

      Sincerely,
      Alexander Roubian
      NJ2AS President

NJ2AS FILES AMICUS BRIEF IN  PANTANO NJ SUPREME COURT CASE

      October 2, 2013

On Tuesday, October 1, 2013, the New Jersey Second Amendment Society (NJ2AS) filed a "friend of the Court" brief in a State Supreme Court appeal challenging New Jersey's "justifiable need" requirement to obtain a Permit to Carry a Handgun.  The Plaintiff, Richard Pantano, is being represented by Evan Nappen, noted civil rights attorney and close friend and supporter of NJ2AS.

    • I very seriously doubt this has anything to do with terrorism.    1) Harbor pilots are VERY seriously vetted, and highly trained. Not to mention extremely well paid. My experience knowing a few of them, and knowing how they are recruited and screened tells me that there is a slim to highly unlikely chance that a harbor pilot would have participated in anything like that.    2) Maintenance of foreign flag ships is well known to be dubious. Especially these days. These were NOT US flag, Jones act sailors. It was (to my understanding) a largely Indian crew on that ship, with a Ukrainian Captain. Indian crews are not exactly known for being stellar.    3) The bunkers (fuel) these ships use is ‘Bunker C’, which is a heavy, dirty fuel oil that can, and usually is, pretty contaminated. This stuff ain’t your car grade gasoline or diesel fuel. It’s nasty.   It requires nearly constant filter changes and maintenance to the engine/generators. The ship took on fuel prior to departing port, which would stir up all kinds of shit in the fuel tanks, which would contribute to particulates in the fuel lines/filters.    4) I’d say the posting of the chief engineer for Maserek above was pretty spot on as far as chain of events.    This was a shitty accident, with horrible timing and outcome. Not a terror attack.
    • I saw Lara's interview on Bannon's War Room, and that gave me pause for thought. Her conjecture depends primarily on the veracity of her sources. Regardless, if it's not applicable in any way to this ship disaster, the methods described seem valid to me. And worthy of consideration for the future. As I said before, IMO something is coming.
