Barrel suggestions 16" or 18"/gas tube

Recommended Posts

Hey guys since my last post I've purchased a lower, upper, l.p.k, stock, and now I'm trying to research barrels. I'm look to mainly hunt with my AR, but will put some time in a tube range. I'm looking at 16" and 18" barrels, what do you guys recommend length/brand/size gas systems?

Ty in advance for the info.

Joe

It depends.

I have a 16" midlength and an 18"  rifle length upper.  The mid length and rifle length on an 18" barrel are both wrong IMO. the noveske intermediate length gas system is right IMO. So with 18, you have a choice of slightly undergrassed with potential reliability issues in the cold, slightly overgassed with harshness on par with a 16" with carbine length gas system, or just right, but with limited access to spare gas tubes.

16" mid length barrels are all over the place, so are gas tubes, and they work nicely. Go with a .223 wylde chamber and you should get muzzle velocities near that of an 18" with a 5.56 chamber. At least I do.

A big Thank You to Rick from

OMG Custom guns, he sat and explained to me what he thought I was looking for, according to what I told him. He took the time to make sure I understood what he was saying. Rick spent 20-30 min. talking to me, and I can't tell you how much knowledge I gathered in that time.

Can't thank Rick enough!

Ps. A big Ty to chris for suggesting I speak to Rick

Ty all, Joe
