I want a Luger

Recommended Posts

I've always liked Lugers, since I was a kid and had a cap gun that was a very accurate replica.

So, I want to buy a 9mm Luger.

My criteria is that it be a gun I can shoot, that isn't so valuable I will be worried about it, and doesn't have any Nazi markings.

What should I look for, how much should I spend?

(On searching, I think this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Lone-Star-Luger-Cap-Pistol-/291067917077 is actually the cap gun I had)

Thanks, Dave

Yeah, I can do that.  I posted in an attempt to get useful advice from people who know what would be good for me.

Don't get snippy, if you could do that why didn't you?  It looks like you have a pretty good grasp of what you want.  That site will give you (somewhat) of market value.  Look for a non matching "shooter".  Or buy a beater and replace some parts from http://www.lugerman.com/Pages/MainPages/Parts.html

He's probably just like me and when I want a new gun I can't stop thinking about it and I just need to talk about it with everyone I can lol

I get it, I'm the same way.  I didn't mean to be dismissive or anything.

Sounds like you need to find a Russian capture Luger.  They aren't around much anymore like the P38's now a days, but I am sure they pop up for reasonable prices if you are looking online.  Good shooters, mis-matched numbers, and most likely peened (no nazi marks).  Keep an eye for auctions as well.  I picked up a decent Luger at a local auction for $500, everything matched except the magazine, and bolt hold open latch.  They are out there!

Anything decent with a mismatch magazine is going to cost at least $1000. If you want a non WW2 gun that is fun to shoot, I would recommend a artillery version. I would not buy a Russian capture because they are a mixed bag of parts and these guns need to assembled with properly fitted parts. If you buy one consider it as an good investment if you buy a decent one.

I did that search first, and then realized from the wild variety and pricing that I would benefit from advice.  I also did some google searching, so you don't have to bother with your next post, which would have been:  http://lmgtfy.com/?q=How+to+buy+a+luger

You could contact Leroy Stout in Hamilton:

609-586-5708

He's an FFL who has a number of historical firearms.  If he doesn't have one to sell, me might know of someone who does.

I was just in Heritage Guild in Branchburg and they had a few. Don't know if they are replicas, originals, or whatever. Give them a call.

In the little side room at the front?  I've looked at those before.  I think they are largely more historic German/Nazi guns from WWII, and probably too nice and old to shoot...

Never heard of that before. Could you post pictures of it? Please include the toggle and date code as well. I am going to say it was probably not made that way.

I'll start a separate post so as not to contaminate this one.
