Trenton on Monday anyone?

Recommended Posts

Listen we are getting as many people as we can to go protest this 10 round limit "ban" hearing on Monday. Some of you don't have Facebook so I'll just let you know we are up to 31 definite and 29 maybe. We need EVERYONE to turn out. Don't wuss out like we did at the polls last November! And also: please dress neat ...business casual or better. We don't want them portraying us as dumb or something on tv or in the media. Let's put our best foot forward in every way we can.

When I attended last year, the staff and State Police at the annex directed everyone to the right rooms (we overflowed into another area with a video feed). Everyone filled out a form indicating their position on each bill (i.e. oppose ALL if they were all anti-gun) and that form had a spot to indicate if you wanted to testify/speak. They then (theoretically) pick an even number of pro/con to speak, even if they crowd is 90% against the bill.

At any given time there are 3 or 4 people at the table to speak (all from one viewpoint). Expect them to lose interest real quick if you wax poetic about the Constitution. Find technical faults with the law.

Then watch as they ignore everything that was said while the AYE votes pour in at lightning speed.

RECAP FROM LAST YEAR

Last year it was easy.- Parking is right off of State Street.  Enter the parking garage in front of the state house - the garage is under the statehouse.  Tell the trooper at the gate that you're there for the committee hearing and he'll let you in.

Follow signs and ask direction - security is at every turn and they are extremely helpful.  They will get you to where you need to be.  Prepare to be metal detected a few times.

Last year we filled the hearing room with over 150 seats and filled a second overflow hearing room with as many seats and had a big crowd outside that could not get in.

NJ2AS really pushed for attendance last year but isn't really doing much this year so I don't know what the crowds will look like.   I got there 2 hours early last year to be sure I'd have a seat and had to sneak around the back of the room and set up my own row of folding chairs I found on a rolling cart in the hall or I would have been in the overflow room.  I couldn't see a thing but I could hear everything.

The speakers were great.   Anyone can testify - they give you a card to fill out and they call your name and give you a limited amount of time to speak.   Of course not everyone got a turn.

Two dozen people showed up in favor of the bills last year and were brought into reserved seating in the front.  The hundreds of us against the bills were told no reserved seating - get up to go to the bathroom and loose your seat.   3 or 4 communists spoke in favor of the bills and were given as  much speaking time as they wanted with no rules.  The 75 or more that spoke in opposition were given 3 minutes each and were not allowed to discuss anything except technicalities of the bills - don't mention the constitution - they don't like that.   If you remind them who actually works for whom you can get yourself escorted out by the state police.

Actually the troopers that were there for security (and there were a lot of them) were great - they were trying to find room for more seats and the conversation was  friendly and casual for the two hours before things actually started and they were going out of their way to be good hosts.  One civilian security guard told a bunch of us that he was glad we showed up and wished us good luck "blocking this b#!! sh!7".

And then they they voted and ignored everything that we said.

Some excellent post so far, if I can get off from work I'll go - these "what to expect" posts will be very helpful.

And if I can't get there, I've spent all spare time for the past week on phone calls, emails, FB, and Twitter - hopefully it helps

If the schools close I'm on kid duty, so I'll be out.

I did send emails, as did my mom. She got a reply from one...

Thank you for contacting me regarding A2006 which reduces the maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.

Please know I share your views that this measure unfairly punishes law abiding gun owners and therefore, I plan to oppose this measure when it comes before me for a vote.

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with your views and please feel to contact me if I can ever be of assistance in this or any other matter.

Sincerely,

David P. Rible

Assemblyman, 30th District

Just received from ANJRPC:

 MONDAY HEARING

TO BE RESCHEDULED!

We have received word that the March 3 meeting of the Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee is being rescheduled as a result of winter storm Titan.

We will issue an alert with details of the rescheduled meeting as soon as we have them.

Please spread the word.

In the meanwhile, please continue to contact members of the Committee and urge them to oppose A2006 (gun ban/ magazine ban), and to amend A2777 (transportation of firearms) to make a one-word amendment to restore judicial discretion on reasonable deviations in transport.

anyone else's tin foil hat make them wonder of CC made the closure call just to delay him having to deal with this? I mean let's say they had the meeting today. When would they vote? When would be the earliest it would be on CC's desk?
