S993: Reduces maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds

Recommended Posts

He did a great tactical move. Being that common sense, logic and sound reasoning doesnt work with our peerless leadrs he hit them in their soft spot-ethics. They arent suppossed to vote on issues that they or their familys diectly benefit from in this case that leo/rleo are I mune from the 10rd mag cap. Interesting that we (I)havent heard of ANJRPC, NJSAF, NRA, SAF etc trying this angle.

Well, the danger here is that they can simply remove the leo/rleo exception from the bill.

I suspect that the major reason for the delay is the mid-term elections. Not that it matters in NJ, but the pressure from the Ds in the other states.

Politicians are fond of saying that granting permits to retired leo's makes our communities safer, and they tell retired leo's that they must qualify twice a year, but are civilians now, have no law enforcement authority and can't carry hollow-point ammo. Seems like a contradiction to me.

if they remove the RLEO in the bill...the UNIONS will HAVE no choice but to fight it, essentially that will put them in a political corner because the math of the availability of votes doesn't allow the dems to have an effective majority anymore.

Plus, it certainly let them know they are being watched...carefully

ANJRPC was fully aware

IMHO it all boils-down to MONEY!  Greenwald promised a magazine exchange during his testimony.  Anthony Colandro picked-up on it and during his testimony asked for 30-40 MILLION DOLLARS to be earmarked for this expenditure.  The Lawyers that actually write the laws gave an opinion (after researching Anthony's statement about some guns only sold with mags that hold more than 10 rounds, etc.) about Greenwald's testimony/promise.  Said expenditure isn't in the Bill, they can't spend money they don't have (or pull it from some other "Social Programs"), therefore the Bill is FLAWED from its' inception.  Add to this no provision for grandfathering/selling so everybody is an automatic felon!  RESULT:  Another FAIL by over-zealous Gun-Grabbin' Idiots!

Even the "Gun Agnostics" are TIRED of being TAXED TO DEATH, so NONE of the losers in Trenton want to jump on THAT horse..........

TRENTON: SENATE ACTION ON S993

COULD COME IN EARLY MAY

Keep Contacting Lawmakers!

While Senate action on S993(gun ban / mag ban) still appears suspended without explanation during the legislature's April budget recess, ANJRPC has learned that the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee is next scheduled to meet on the morning of Monday, May 5.  While the agenda of that meeting has not yet been set, it should be regarded as the Senate's next available opportunity to move this horrific legislation.

Gun owners should tentatively calendar May 5 and be prepared to come to Trenton to attend the hearing in person and testify.  We will issue follow-up alerts to confirm / clarify as we learn more about the schedule.

In the meanwhile, there should be no break in the grassroots momentum from our end.  Gun owners, hunters and sportsmen must continue to weigh in repeatedly (by email with every State Senator, and by phone and fax with their individual State Senator).  Tell them to oppose S993 (gun ban / mag ban).

Please also continue to contact Governor Christie and urge him to oppose this legislation if it gets to his desk.  A sustained effort during this break in the action is extremely important.

Also, please continue to oppose this legislation in letters to the editor and op-ed pieces in your local media

For current talking points on S993, see this recent Op-Ed published in The Record.

FRIDAY: U.S. SUPREME COURT

TO DECIDE WHETHER TO HEAR

NJ RIGHT TO CARRY CHALLENGE!

Critical Decision Coming!

Friday, April 18th marks one of the most dramatic moments in history for gun owners throughout the Garden State and the nation, as the U.S. Supreme Court considers whether to hear an appeal in the ANJRPC / SAF challenge to New Jersey's carry laws.

Right to carry is the holy grail of the gun rights movement, and the next logical step in Second Amendment jurisprudence after Heller and McDonald.  New Jersey's carry laws are among the worst in the nation, requiring previous attacks or documented threats as a condition of issuing a carry permit.

If the Supreme Court decides to take the case, it could clarify the right to carry issue for the entire nation, and New Jersey would become ground zero for the gun rights movement as the scramble of the decade begins.  The Supreme Court's decision on whether it will take the case could be announced as soon as Friday or early next week.

The case was brought by ANJRPC and the Bellevue, Washington-based Second Amendment Foundation.

For more on the significance of this case, check out recent Scott Bach columns here and here.

As anticipated, Senate action on S993(gun ban / mag ban) is now set to resume with a hearing of the Senate Law and Public Safety Committee officially scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5. Gun owners, hunters and sportsmen need to immediately tell members of the committee to oppose this blatant attack on their rights that will not affect crime or prevent another tragedy.
