Roktory 5 Posted March 24, 2014 So how can I find out if The CITADEL M-1 9mm Carbine is legal in NJ? http://legacysports.com/m-1-9mm-carbine
Njbanshee 9 Posted March 24, 2014 Why wouldn't it be legal? No pistol grip, no adjustable stock, no bayonet, and it has 10 round mags. I know it jersey, but you should be fine.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted March 24, 2014 Banned by name.... Nope.
chris327 30 Posted March 24, 2014 but is the name on it m1 carbine? the catalog name is CIR9M1S. whats it say as model on the rifle itself i think is the question no?
FLHX 1 Posted March 24, 2014 I just don't get it if they had a smart marketing dept they would of called it something diffrent than an M1. I would like to think they know that some states cannot have M1 name rifles? Are there other states besides Kalifornia and NJ that have these banned? Roktory 5 Posted March 24, 2014 You are right all thay have to do is call it the M-9 carbine and it would be ok. i also found that Chiappa is planning on entering the marker with its own version called M1-9 http://www.chiappafirearms.com/product/2678
chris327 30 Posted March 24, 2014 i think its the same gun. The one i saw was a citadel imported by chiappa.
siderman 1,137 Posted March 24, 2014 i too was eyeing it a little while back, its a sharp looking rifle for sure. Especially since I'm loaded with the Beretta mags it takes but the M1 name ban kills it.
antimatter 139 Posted March 24, 2014 that blows, i love it. would buy one tomorrow!
Tallday 10 Posted March 24, 2014 I want that now!!! But NJ sucks rhino butt

I believe even original WW2 carbines do not have m1 carbine stamped anywhere on them. They are marked 30ML or something like that. I believe there are a few postwar models that are stamped M1 carbine. It is really annoying that there is no real clarification from the AG. The m1 carbine situation is like calling every Ar style rifle an Ar15 even though they are not marked that way.
PK90 3,570 Posted March 24, 2014 95% of all M1 Carbines are stamped: "US CARBINE" "CAL 30 M1" Sent from an undisclosed location.
Tallday 10 Posted March 24, 2014 So if its not stamped m1 is legal? Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk
Old School 611 Posted March 24, 2014 So what you are saying if you stamp "M1" on a broom stick it's illegal? Sorry I don't think that is the case. Ask the AG to chamber a "30 carbine" round. Does anyone have a pic of the actual model stamping on this carbine?
dajonga 396 Posted March 24, 2014 Niiice. Takes 92 mags, too. I want.
JT Custom Guns 956 Posted March 24, 2014 I spoke with Chiappa this morning and they say the receiver is stamped M1-9 so the gun would not be legal in NJ solely on M- stamping............

The rifle does not have to be stamped 'Carbine" just if it is stamped "M1" and it is carbine length rifle - it is an M1 carbine
Roktory 5 Posted March 24, 2014 Since the USGI M-1 carbine used a gas piston operated action. And the M1-9MM one are "blowback operated" is that enough of different for them to be considered?
siderman 1,137 Posted March 24, 2014 I spoke with Chiappa this morning and they say the receiver is stamped M1-9 so the gun would not be legal in NJ solely on M- stamping............ What if they stamped some FUG-NJ. Would they be legal then?
GRIZ 3,369 Posted March 24, 2014 Since the USGI M-1 carbine used a gas piston operated action. And the M1-9MM one are "blowback operated" is that enough of different for them to be considered? IIRC its referred to on the banned list as "M1 Carbine Type". That can mean anything from it an exact copy to something that looks like a M1 carbine. Only the NJ AG knows for sure. I don't think if it was an exact copy and stamped something other than M1 it would be okay in NJ.
Old Glock guy 1,127 Posted March 24, 2014 Banned by name.... Nope. Yes, beat me to it. And I can't tell you how much I hate that! (Not that you beat me to it, but that they arbitrarily declared it illegal in NJ.)
Bt Doctur 188 Posted March 24, 2014 But putting this on my 1911 lower is still legal
Contrvlr 17 Posted March 24, 2014 Evil M1 banned , Mini14 not When my father in law passed away my mother in law sold his ( in R.I. ) because she knew I couldn't own it, did find a 15 rnd. mag in a box of his stuff when she came to live with us, so disappointing not to have anything to put it in
BlueLineFish 615 Posted March 24, 2014 Might have to inquire with the AG. Going to get all the specs on the two and email him as an LEO and see if I can get clarification
Bt Doctur 188 Posted March 24, 2014 Pretty sure the M1 carbine mags are also illegal in NJ
GRIZ 3,369 Posted March 24, 2014 Pretty sure the M1 carbine mags are also illegal in NJ Not the 15 rd magazines. Its a 15 rd magazine, nothing illegal about that. If you have a M1 carbine and registered it when you could I believe you can have the 30 rd mags if you use the rifle in competition.
mipafox 438 Posted March 25, 2014 I hope you can have it. Looks bad ass. I know mag interchangeability is a plus, but I would switch out that floor plate. Makes it look funny.
KpdPipes 388 Posted March 26, 2014 but is the name on it m1 carbine? the catalog name is CIR9M1S. whats it say as model on the rifle itself i think is the question no? Tell that to the Auto-Ordnance US Carbine "ML" NJSP actually TRIED to allow it and was Derailed by the former AG..nobody in the FIU is going to try again

The m1 carbine situation is like calling every Ar style rifle an Ar15 even though they are not marked that way. Originals are stamped "US Carbine" Caliber .30 M1" the Auto Ordnance Carbines were stamped "ML" and declared to be "Substantially Identical" by fiat of the former AG
PK90 3,570 Posted March 26, 2014 I think that even if the stampings were to be "NJ CARBINE" and "CAL 7.62x33mm", the NJAG would prevent the sale in NJ, based on the similar/identical workings and looks.
