SgtToadette...There will be some prerequisites for certain classes that can be satisfied through training in lower level classes, or by "testing out", or through proof of equivalent civilian/LE/military training.  More info to follow and be sure to join us for the Grand Opening celebration on May 3-4, 2014.

This reminds me of the South Park episode where Cartman froze himself into suspended animation, because he couldn't stand the wait until the new

Wii version came out.  That May date seems so far off!

Could you give us some info about the classes?

LOL...that's a great analogy!  For me the time is going too fast as we try to get everything ready for the launch.

We will have classes posted and open for registration on the RTSP site probably in the next ten days, and they will begin mid-May time frame.  Our initial offerings will be Advanced Combat Pistol, Advanced Combat Shotgun, SG Unarmed Combat, Home Invasion Defense and likely the first module of our Executive Protection Program.  The training will be on week nights in 4-5 hour blocks and 8 hour blocks on weekends.  We will also offer private lessons in one to four hour blocks.

All courses will have a Primary Instructor (PI) and at least one Assistant Instructor (AI).  Our PIs are ALL Spec Ops combat veterans, most of whom are still active, some are recently separated and still working as security contractors.  Our AIs are ALL military combat vets and/or current active SWAT cops.  Private lessons will be available with either a PI or AI level instructor, the hourly rate will differ obviously.

Everyone who puts on our polo shirt and steps in front of the class has earned the right to wear it, and is truly an expert at what they are teaching you.  Please ask them about their backgrounds, check them out and you will confirm that our cadre is, as advertised, unparalleled in the tactical training arena.

I hope this info helps ease the suspense a little...lol.  I will continue to post as we confirm dates, etc.  Feel free to call the office at 973.434.7601 or write to [email protected] for specific requests or to book a private lesson or private group seminar.

Two weeks until the Grand Opening/Open House weekend on May 3rd and 4th!  We are getting excited and hope you are too.  I will have a schedule of events out this week and get it posted here.  There will be at least three free demo sessions (live-fire, shoot house and dojo) both Saturday and Sunday given by our top Instructors :triniti: , and I'm planning a NJGF special free seminar.  We have some exciting special guests coming so bring your camera.  I will keep everyone posted over the next two weeks.

Eye and ear pro is a good idea for the live fire demos. I know RTSP has numerous loaner sets, but I would bring my own just to be sure. A notepad or an iPad/smart phone if you want to take down some notes on any training tips. Maybe a camera, but I guess most phones will also meet that need. That's all I can think of right now as far as kit.

Bring friends and family of course, anyone who might be interested in this type of training - civilian shooters, security people, police officers and military members. There's really something for everyone. Responsible citizens who care about safe gun ownership, self-defense, and home security and armed professionals who want to take their training to the next level.

We will also offer the ability to register for future classes that day and schedule private lessons with our SOF and SWAT instructors.

My tip on the private lessons - meet and greet with the instructors on May 3-4. When you find one you connect with and really feel comfortable with, take 15-20 minutes and sit with them that day to discuss your past training and experience and your goals. Develop a personal training plan with them and then if you choose, book your private lesson, be it one session or ten. But first feel comfortable and have a plan of what you hope to accomplish in your training.

Thanks for the question and please keep them coming.

Ok...so I'm resorting to bribery. Yes, I admit it, I'm willing to bribe all of you for a successful event on May 3rd and 4th.

Seriously, I'll make a deal with NJGF members. I want to get the word out about our partnership with RTSP and our grand opening event so...

If I get 500 followers on Twitter and 500 likes on Facebook by May 3rd, I will extend the free seminar I have planned for you guys from half hour to an hour. I was already giving a NJGF members only free seminar that weekend, so if you guys help me spread the word I will double the length of the free seminar. This is legit free training from a top SOF operator!

So spread the word and get me up to 500/500! If you get me to 1000 likes, who knows what I will do?!? LOL

Unfortunately I couldn't make it to the event. Will similar demos occur at any other time in the future? I'm definitely intrigued and am disappointed that I was already double booked this weekend.

I will arrange something for you. Thanks for your interest.

I have been asked to run a class to prepare people for carrying a defensive firearm by my home range, Phillipsburg Pistol club.
It will be held on August 6th, from noon until approx. 4pm.
We will cover safe use of a holster and a number of defensive shooting techniques.
The class will finish with running each student through HQC1 and a certificate will be provided for those that achieve a passing score.
It is open to all, but members of Phillipsburg Pistol Club will have spots reserved for them.

Going to do a few posts on at home training including what you need, how to do it safely and cover some drills.  From basic to some more advanced stuff.  Really the importance is to focus on perfecting the basics and make it become second nature.  It's important to start slowly, fix any mistakes, and build proper muscle memory.  Avoid getting sloppy or lazy and developing training scars.
Practice does not make perfect.  Practice makes permanent.  Only perfect practice makes perfect.
I like to spend about 20 minutes a few days a week.  5 minutes for setup and clean up, and 15 minutes for practice.  That's all that's really needed.  Make sure you have a goal in mind on what you want to focus on.  This will prevent you from getting sloppy and getting training scars, and will help you stay interested by allowing you to constantly improve.

      SAFETY:
Setup a safe area where you will not be interrupted.  Place your targets in the safest position in case of an accidental misfire.
Immediately check and make your gun clear.  Do the same with the magazines you will be practicing with (recommend 2 empty magazines).
Retrieve all of the items you might need for this training.  You don't want to have to go back into the safe or storage where your live guns and ammo are once you start practicing.
Store and lock up all live ammunition away from where you will be doing the training for the entire duration of the training.  If you can't lock it up, it should be in a separate room where you will not go until your training session is totally finished and you are putting everything away.
Every time you pick up the gun, check that it is clear.  Even though you know its clear, this creates the mindset to always check the status of a gun when you pick it up.
When you are done training, you are done.  Don't go back and do one more thing after you start putting things away.  This is when accidents happen.
