SKS Modification problem

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm interested in replacing the wood stock of Norinco SKS into the one made by Tapco, which comes with a folding stock. I have read some articles about when SKS comes to modification it must comply the 922®, which means at least 4 parts out of 14 must be replaced by US made ones. The Tapco stock offers stock and handguard, and I can buy Tapco gas piston to replace the original one, which gives 3 in total. Most people says replacing the magazine will handle the rest, but problem is that in PRNJ no detachable magazine is allowed for SKS and no 15+ rnd magazine is permitted either. Under this situation is it still OK to install new stock to SKS?

Thanks.

Personally - I can not remember ever hearing anyone being busted on 922r

and personally, i really wouldn't worry about it, but if you are dedicated to converting

your SKS to a Tapco stock, and (for obvious reasons) can't go the detachable mag route

you are going to have to go inside and replace trigger, hammer & sear to get compliant.

I really don't see anyone from the ATF asking you to disassemble your rifle to show them

the US stamp on your trigger group, but have at it.......................
