What's this SxS shotgun?

I know that Springfield Arms made stuff for Stevens but I cant pin point what this model is

 

The markings don't match any other Stevens models I have seen

 

The other thing is who ever owned this longtime ago put some kind of lacquer on the barrels and part of the receiver, any ideas why one would do that?

 

Whats it worth? and What is it?

 

Just says

 

Springfield

Arms Company

Chicopee Falls, Mass, USA        PAT April 15, 1920

 

There is no other markings on it besides a serial number inside the break action and it has  28" inch barrels

I think Stevens purchased the Springfield Shotgun line somewhere in the early teens

and Stevens marketed a few brands (Springfield being one of them) until around 1920 +/-

when Savage bought out Stevens

it does look like one but its not marked Stevens anywheres, all the images I find are marked stevens for the 311
