Any manuals have data for 95 gr. JHP .380 ACP?

Recommended Posts

As the title suggests... I've gotten my hands on 100 rounds of 95 gr. .380 JHP bullets from Montana Gold Bullets.

I know there are some dimensional variations between the same weight 95 gr. JHP and FMJ.

Just want to make sure I'm not inadvertently overloading these rounds.

I've got Lyman and Speer, but they skip over 95 gr. JHP.

I've got 700-X and Titegroup to work with.

For the record, I'm loading up a few varieties of .380 with 95 grn. before I mess with the JHP's.

The datasheet that is included in the Lee 380acp carbide die set shows for 95gr jacketed:

2.7-3.3 max gr Titegroup (my pistol powder of choice)

953 fps (at max)

min .0970 OAL

The only data for IMR 700-X on the sheet is for 100gr jacketed:

2.7-2.7 max gr

840 fps

0.980 OAL

I plink (Ruger LCP) with Rogers Better Bullets 95 gr LRN over 2.9 gr Titegroup and Lee Factory Crimped.

YMMV

All you need is jacketed data. Start at starting load and work up. I have never seen a manual that differentiates data for FMJ and JHP. Always start at the lowest starting load you can find.

You can always use data for the next heavier bullet.

The following is a data compilation from several manuals. Note that a given start load with one company's gun and lot numbers of components can be well above the max load of another company's given their different gun and components.

Bullet  Weight Powder Weight Velocity Start/Max COL

Sie FMJ  95 700X 1.7 693 Start

Sie FMJ  95 700X 2.5 935 Max

Spr TMJ RN  95 700X 3.1 912 Start

Spr TMJ RN  95 700X 3.4 1012 Max

Sie FMJ  95 Titegroup 2.4 861 Start

Sie FMJ  95 Titegroup 2.7 938 Max

Spr FMJ  95 Titegroup 2.7 796 Start 0.970

Spr TMJ RN  95 Titegroup 2.7 851 Start

Spr FMJ  95 Titegroup 2.8 732

Rainier Cu P-FP  95 TiteGroup 3.0   Max 0.940

L-FP  95 TiteGroup 3.0   Max 0.940

Sierra FMJ  95 TiteGroup 3.1 990 Max 0.960

FMJ  95 TiteGroup 3.1 990 Max 0.960

Spr TMJ RN  95 Titegroup 3.1 930 Max

Spr FMJ  95 Titegroup 3.2 953 Max 0.970

Thanks everyone. I've worked my way up from 2.7 to 3.1 gr of Titegroup in my PPK and found 3.0 is ideal for the PPK with the tightest groupings.

That 3.0 gr was ideal with the Montana Gold 95 gr. FMJ... I guess I'll try working up to those same loads with the Montana Gold 95 gr. JHP.

Thanks all!
