OchoBlue 3 Posted May 23, 2014 I see the antis can make regulations tougher locally such as NYC which has tougher laws than NY state. Why can''t the opposite happen? That being said even before Peruta some cities in California issued CCW llicenses. NY also has some CCW friendly counties as well. Why can't some of NJ's more 2A friendly counties act more as shall issue rather than may issue? Why don't we try and get a ccw referundum on the ballot on a county / state level? Is this someething the NRA / 2A groups could champion? Cumberland, Salem, Morris, Sussex and Warren counties would proabably be in favorite of it. illy 1 Posted May 23, 2014 NJ doesn't allow for referendums....We do, but it has to go through legislature. Not sure of the exact process.
ryan_j 0 Posted May 23, 2014 The reason you can't do things locally is because we have state preemption of local gun laws. To that I say, F'em, and do it anyway. At least I would if I was a mayor or county freeholder. Why? Towns are already breaking the law in the opposite direction. Why not beat them at their own game? ryan_j 0 Posted May 23, 2014 That being said even before Peruta some cities in California issued CCW llicenses. NY also has some CCW friendly counties as well. California's discretion as to what constitutes "good cause" is up to county Sheriffs. They are elected. That is why some counties are shall-issue. Why can't some of NJ's more 2A friendly counties act more as shall issue rather than may issue? Why don't we try and get a ccw referundum on the ballot on a county / state level? Is this someething the NRA / 2A groups could champion? The current system is state law which overrides local laws. The discretion to issue is ultimately left up to the superior court. Courts and judges tend to operate on precedent. Cumberland, Salem, Morris, Sussex and Warren counties would proabably be in favorite of it. Hey, I hear you. I wish we had more local control. I wish our Sheriffs were in charge because I believe Mike Strada would issue permits if he was allowed to. And even if he doesn't, we can always vote for another up here. dobie 0 Posted June 22, 2014 I read somewhere that the 7th CD was the most conservative in the state. That's parts of Hunterdon/Somerset. Or was it most Republican? Same thing??
