Shawnmoore81 623 Posted May 25, 2014 I'm looking at the ar500 set ups and they are having a nice sale this weekend. Anyone familure with their products. Not sure if I want the conceal vest with side plates or a molle vest. The conceal vest I think I might get some actual use out of. But I'm shopping for a tac vest anyway so one with plates would be nice.
checko 180 Posted May 25, 2014 From the chest rig thread; Got my plates in today (as well as a new holster. God I love new gear day) and holy shit was I underestimating the effect the extra weight would have. I'm super glad I didnt go with the steel plates. Adding an extra 5 or so lbs onto what I have would be rough. I'm sitting here, in my plate carrier and belt rig, as I type, and have to rethink some of my setup. Again. I want to see if I can switch the releasable part of my PC to the left side, so it doesnt interfere with shouldering the rifle. Speaking of which, its much different to get a good cheek weld now. I think I need to lengthen the suspenders on my belt to give me a little more room to clear my emergency reload mags. I can draw and holster my pistol with no issues thankfully (have shooters cut plates). I may have to adjust the vertical grip on my rifle to account for the depth(?) of the PC. I will say, the multi curve with the shooters cut is very comfortable as far as the plates themselves are concerned. Any advice from the guys who wear this for a living? I don't know that it's a good idea to take a stroll around the neighborhood wearing this to break it in lol. If you're looking to get plates, do yourself a favor, save as much weight as possible. These are the ones I picked up: HighCom Security Guardian 4SAS-7 Level IV 10x12 Multi Curve Shooters Cut. Came out to be about $250 for the pair, shipped. http://highcomsecurity.com/collections/plates/products/guardian-4sas-7 I definitely suggest ceramic plates. Highcom seems to be well regarded and gives you 25% off if you sign up for their newsletter.
Krdshrk 3,877 Posted May 25, 2014 Are you looking for rifle strength protection or handgun? The IIIA soft plates from US Palm (Primary Arms sells 'em) are very nice and concealable... I have a second chance vest that's concealable that will fit the soft armor.

Second on the ceramic suggestion. I was not a fan of the steel plates I had both from a weight and a comfort perspective.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted May 25, 2014 Ceramic take as much punishment?
checko 180 Posted May 25, 2014 Nick brings up a good point though. Level 3a armor is more comfortable and concealable if you're not worried about rifle rounds
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted May 25, 2014 I'd want a rifle round plate

Blake 50 Posted May 25, 2014 I would also say that getting a good quality pc is going to make the setup waaay more comfortable. I have 2 TAG Banshee setups and they fit much better than a condor, rithco, etc pc.

jon.squared 0 Posted June 11, 2014 Don't forget, AR500 plates for body armor behave just like AR500 plates for shooting steel. There will be flecks of copper jacketing and other components of the bullet spraying everywhere after a shot (in particular... watch out for your face). You can't beat proper armor and you might as well go multi-hit Ceramic (for weight savings and durability) since you can get a pair for 250-300. MidwestPX 172 Posted June 25, 2014 bulletproofme.com is an amazing source for armor. I highly recommend them.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted July 10, 2014 I looked at some today. The brand I saw was tactical response and it was level 3a. So it only would stop pistol rounds but was soft.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted July 14, 2014 Anyone ever use gh armor systems?
Smoke Eater 0 Posted July 15, 2014 Here are plates a few people I know run. Pricey as hell but look at the weight on them and what they can stop. http://www.midwestarmor.com/body-armor/mass-iii also remember you want a soft set of armor to sit under your plates. Added level of protection and a buffer for impact.
Shawnmoore81 623 Posted July 15, 2014 http://www.gharmorsystems.com/products/tactical-response-carrier-trc I tried this on and it was comfortable but didn't stop rifle rounds
