glockamole 0 Posted June 4, 2014 Just looking for anyone who has been to Delaware to share some information about carry in the state. I am going on a short vacation in a week and would like to take my firearm. I have a non resident permit from Utah. From what I can see I am good to conceal carry in Delaware. I will be going to Rehoboth beach and around the area. This will be my first time carrying outside my home. Any tips for Delaware carry or carry in general for a newbie? Thanks in advance. Im excited but nervous at the same time. Not nervous about having the gun just the laws I don't want to break by mistake somehow.
Tango Charlie 0 Posted June 4, 2014 Handgunlaw.Us is a good place to start with do's and don't's with your carry license. Also chamber your firearm with Guard Dog and not hollow points. Although they are legal in Delaware, NJ's laws will screw you over.
maintenanceguy 510 Posted June 4, 2014 I carry in DE all the time. Lots of info on usacarry.com about each state's requirements. Keep it concealed and nobody will know a thing. Open carry is legal in DE without a permit but I never see it, not like central PA where it's pretty common. You'll worry about it all day on day 1. Day 2 is easier. Underdog 1,593 Posted June 4, 2014 Rehoboth and Dewey beach are very nice. You should have a great time.
TulsaJohn 1 Posted June 4, 2014 Do not take into a casino or state parks. I believe Rehoboth Beach is a state park. I was there over memorial day weekend. I CC the entire time, for the exception of the beach, and casino. No Problems
HBecwithFn7 296 Posted June 4, 2014 If you're driving down, allow extra time. it seems, this past Monday, the Christina River bridge (I-495) was closed as a safety precaution, as 4 of the support columns were discovered to be "tilting" (a la "Leaning Tower of Pisa," although far less severe). All traffic is now being diverted onto I-95 through the city of Wilmington. Not known when it will re-open. CBS - I-495 bridge to remain closed indefinitely. The only other option would be to go down the NJ Turnpike and across the Del. Memorial Bridge. Fear not.... You can still get to Cabela's on Del 1. magnawing 5 Posted June 4, 2014 Taking I-95 through Wilmington is usually quicker than 495 anyway...I grew up about 40 minutes from Rehoboth so I make that trip a few times a year to visit my parents. Turnpike/295 takes me about 90 minutes longer and 495 takes 45-60 minutes longer than just staying on 95...worst part of 95 is through Chester, PA...I've been through at all hours of the day and the only time it's wide open is late at night (between 9pm and 4am). One caveat, if there's a game starting or ending in Philly, do yourself a favor and cross the river below the stadium (i.e. Commodore Barry Bridge) or spend the extra time to take the Del Mem Bridge. No matter which way you go, if it's a Friday, plan on it taking 2-3 times longer than your GPS/Google Maps/Mapquest tells you it will take.
glockamole 0 Posted June 4, 2014 Thanks for the tips and info. Ill be going on a Thursday and coming home Saturday. I live right off the turnpike and just take that down and over the bridge. Cabelas is a definite stop for sure! I read about the casino so I won't be going to them I don't gamble much anyway. I read on the delaware open carry forums alot open carry in Rehoboth without a problem so im sure since nobody will know ill be fine. I guess on the beach is what I not really finding much info on. I mean I wont be swimming with my glock or go in the ocean. Just want to relax on the beach and do some photography. If I can't find a 100% ok on beach ill just leave it in the hotel. What does everyone do when staying in a hotel as far as keeping your firearm secure. I was planning to bring my pistol safe that has a fingerprint reader. This way its safe at night or when I go someplace I won't take it like dogfish head for a beer.
magnawing 5 Posted June 4, 2014 Many hotels have in-room safes that you set the combo for or that you can use your own card with a magnetic strip to open (I.e. an expired credit card) This is my signature. There are many like it but this one is mine.
AlexTheSane 236 Posted June 4, 2014 I don't trust that the employees don't have access to those safes.
fishnut 2,358 Posted June 4, 2014 They do have access to the safe. while on vacation in Jamaica I was very drunk and could not open the safe and someone from the resort came and plugged in a small computer and hit a button and the safe was opened for me. While I was in Holland 12 years ago my camera and a bunch of cash was stolen out of the room safe and it was not forced open either. Now I do not trust any safe in a hotel room

While I was in Holland 12 years ago my camera and a bunch of cash was stolen out of the room safe and it was not forced open either. Now I do not trust any safe in a hotel room I had a similar issue in Viña Del Mar, Chile. Their safes were so old, they were "key operated." I think I locked my key inside it. They had to send the "security guy" up with a ring full of keys, but he got it opened, and in my presence, so nothing was taken. Other than the above, I've had pretty good luck with hotel safes, but all prior to my being a gun owner and taking "inventory" with me. For this past Florida trip, I stayed only "overnight" in hotels (when I'm actually in FL it's in a private house that I rent). So there would be no occasion for anyone to enter the room, and I'm in it mostly (unless I'm out to dinner or to the convenience store). In any case, I had all my inventory in "Stack-On like" personal safes, enclosed in a standard Airline overnight rollaboard that is also locked. It may not stop a determined thief, but hopefully, out of sight... out of mind. Besides, my laptop would be more exposed anyway.

glockamole 0 Posted June 4, 2014 My beer fridge is full of dogfish. I have a World Wide Stout, Olde School and Palo Santo Marron ready. Will being doing the tour for the 5th time or so. Everytime they have added new stuff. I did some reading and found some sections of the beaches are state parks but not the parts in town limits like right off the boardwalk. Found a news article of a guy who was open carrying on the beach in Rehoboth. Lifeguards called and LEO showed up. LEO said he was not breaking the law as Delaware is a open carry state and the guy walked on his way. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
