Firearm storage while living in a coastal area

I might soon be moving down to Monmouth County, about a mile from the beach. Im wondering if living this close to the ocean might affect firearm maintenance and storage.

 

I currently give my guns a good inspection and oiling about every 6-12 months and keep them stored in a safe. I currently live in Essex county. I have never had any rust issues. Can I keep my current routine or should I inspect and oil them more frequently if I live by the ocean?

do you use a golden rod or something else in your safe? if you do, you'll be fine then

Not familiar with the Golden rod, i will look into it.

I have lived 1/4 mile or so from the ocean or the bay for over 20 years. I've had no more issues than when I lived in Jackson. I do about what you do.

Is your concern salt and humidity in the air or flooding?

I was concerned about the salt air. But wasnt sure if this was an issue about a mile out from the beach.

I live on the bay and we keep our windows open most of the time. I bought a few of the rechargeable dehumidifiers and take them out to dry every 2 weeks. They have a color indicator that lets you know when they are saturated.

What Blake said. I live 1/4 mile from the bay, keep them in a safe in the basement, and use the rechargeable dehumidifiers. Been known to not even touch a gun for a few years. Never had an issue.

Definitely use the golden rod. Three years ago I bought a house and moved into the woods. A few weeks later I noticed some light surface rust powder develop. I put a rod in the safe and no issues since then.
