FID Application Progress

Hello Everyone,

I am starting this thread to track the progress of my Initial Firearms Identification Card Application along with one (1) Permit to Purchase. I am a resident on Wall Township and the application was submitted to the Wall Township Police Department.

12/20/13 - My initial application was processed by the Records Department of the Wall Township Police Department

12/28/13 - I was finger printed by MorphoTrust

12/30/13 - Finger Prints submitted to the Records Department

6/1/14 - Officer from Wall Township PD contacted me to inform me that the paperwork was processed and on the desk of the chief, awaiting his signature. He stated I should have the permit "shortly".

6/9/14 - Records Department states permit on desk of the Chief awaiting his signature

6/16/14 - Records Department states permit on desk of the Chief awaiting his signature

6/20/14 - Chiefs Secretary reports FID/P2P on the desk of the Chief still awaiting his signature

6/24/14 - Email sent to District 30 Assemblyman Dave Rible asking for his help on my behalf with the expedition of the process.

6/25/14 - Received call back from Assemblyman Rible. I missed the call and when I returned it he was in a meeting. Asked staffer to have the Assemblyman contact me tomorrow.

6/26/14 - No return call from Assemblyman Rible

6/27/14 - Made appointment with WTPD Chief for Thursday July 3, 2014
 

7/3/14 - Met with Chief of Police Robert Brice. He stated that he would have had my FID/P2P last week but because of my meeting he held up the permits. He states that I should now have them "by the end of next week".

 

7/7/14 - Received call from Wall Township Police Records Department stating that my permit and paperwork were ready for pick-up. Appointment was made for the next morning at 0800 hours.

 

7/8/14 - Firearms Identification Card and 1 (One) Permit to Purchase was received. Contacted my Firearms dealer Plumsted Arms (DRA Technologies) who had my brand new Sig Sauer P226 MK25 waiting for me. A SRT was installed, ATF, and State Paperwork was filled out.

 

7/8/14 - Official owner of a Sig Sauer P226 MK25 with SRT

You have more patience than a snail. Did you submit another application for more permits? Don't wait until you get these ones.

Took my wife 6 months as well. Town said her prints were bad so she had to get reprinted. 2nd set were better, but not up to standards. Detective said he had to run an alternate background check for her.

 

6 months later she finally got the call. Her case might have been a one off since my town is usually good with issuing permits to me in less then a month.

I have been averaging 6 months for any interaction (FID, P2P, etc) with the NJSP, so this is typical from what I have seen.

Putting aside the illegal and objectionable nature of licensing to purchase firearms, when did this system get all jacked up like this? And why? Are they just screwing people around nowadays, or has demand exponentially increased, what happened?

This is a total disgrace.  I really feel bad for those that have to go through this total crap.  I guess I am very lucky as I have never waited more than 28 days in my town, and have gotten apologies when it takes that long.  As has been said you should report this entire fiasco to ANJRPC and NJ2AS.  Since other towns can do this in the 30 day window there is no excuse for a six month wait!

Using police authority to punish and intimidate people who have done nothing wrong should not a routine and it should not be tolerated. This should punished more severely than assault, robbery or rape. It is a greater crime.

 

Now, cops sometimes get aggravated or frightened and do something stupid. And sometimes they make mistakes. It has to be understood that will happen, within reason. Not excused, but understood.

 

That is not what this is about. This is pretty much the worst crime in our society.

 

He will not find justice, so let's hope he gets run over by something.

This isn't unusual at all, as some of us have sadly come to find out.

what makes it worse is hearing all the excuses and KNOWING it's total bullshit.

I've waited 7+ months hearing crap like "it's the state, it's the mental health form"

meanwhile, 5 miles away in the same county, my brother got his P2P issued in six days.

Thank you all for your support with this issue. It helps to know that I am not the only one out there that is fed up with the length of this process.

 

I will be waiting until the end of next week before I contact any other people (Mayor & Assemblyman) so that I afford the Chief of Police every opportunity.

We are having the same long extended delay timetable in Lavallette.  So at the next Council Meeting I intend to ask this during the Public Discussion Period:

* Councilwoman Fillapone, I am requesting all of your future reports to Council, as Liaison for Public Safety, that part of your report include the following ...

** Number of FID & handgun permit applications received during the month - the number of unapproved permit applications not processed with dates greater than 30 days - the date of the oldest unprocessed initial request(s) - number of permits processed during the month.  Also please include the the requests by: new, change of address and lost or duplicate

Well...1965 or so when FIDs began.

 

Anyway, the system has gotten more jacked up because of the Obamalypse, then events like Newtown increased even more. More demand for firearms=more paperwork=more time. Also, it is slightly more likely that CLEOs are anti-gun because of the sensationalism.

Me and several family members got them in the 80s and it never took more than a few weeks. Not in one town, but all over the state, north to south.

I am also from Wall Township and I just handed in all my paper work and got fingerprinted last week on the 19th. Hopefully I don't experience as much trouble as you did, any advice on when I should check in or anything? Would really appreciate some feedback from someone that just went through this as I don't know anyone who has a FID card. Thanks!
