Do bullpup's pistol grips count as one of the two allowed things on S-A's?

Recommended Posts

Bullpup rifles are defined as "a modern firearm configuration in which the action and magazine are located behind the trigger group and alongside the shooter's face, so there is no wasted space for the buttstock as in conventional designs."

And the NJ law says

"i. A semi-automatic rifle that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least

two of the following:
(1) A folding or telescoping stock;(2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;(3) A bayonet mount;(4) A flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and (5) A grenade launcher;
So does a bullpup's pistole grip count as one of these things. Since its pistol grip is not below the action. So you can buy any out of state tavor with only modifying the magazine and not the flash hidder.

I think you are splitting hairs and I'd hate to be a defense lawyer trying to sell that to a judge and/or jury. The pistol grip is on a plane decidedly below the action and therefore counts as one evil feature. Others may disagree, but I wouldn't stake my future on semantic games. JMHO / IANAL.

Adios,

O.K. - Just to clarify a few points here:

1) Title:

do bullpub's pistol grips count as one of the two allowed things on S-A's

There are not "two allowed things" allowed - there are Two Evil Features which classify a weapon as an 'Assault Weapon"

You are not allowed TWO features. You are allowed ONE, the second is the No- No.

2) A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

The statute does not state below front, Below center or below behind - it simply says "below"

A pistol grip on a Bull Pup is BELOW the action, so it is considered an evil feature.

There is no way around that, and if you were to try - you would be asking for a world of problems.

I hope this clarifies it for you...........................

For the Tavor, just replace the flash hider with a muzzle brake. IMO, other bullpups have grips that are not pistol grips but are true thumbhole stocks that allows you to use a flash hider, ie PS-90.

Yeah, it depends what they mean by "below." If it is "below" as in "at a lower level or layer than"  then no, but if it were "below" as in "extending underneath" then yes?

I wouldn't try it.

Unless you can get Bill "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is" Clinton to go back into private practive and represent you.

I wouldn't try it.

You'll wind up arguing over what the action is. Is it just the bolt and related, or does it include the trigger group. The grip is still a pistol grip immediately below the trigger group.

Do you feel comfortable arguing against that in court?

when the jury may be at least partially made up of people that a) are not knowledgeable about guns or worse b) are basing their opinion solely on the evil black machine gun that is being paraded around the court room..

      Hey everyone,  I'm a new gun owner and I love the gun community!  What I don't love is NJ and their ambiguous and backwards gun laws.  I wanted to get a pump action bullpup shotgun and was looking at the Kel Tec KS7 and KSG.  While trying to compare them with other brands I found it was almost impossible to find a list of pump action bullpup shotguns for around $1,000 or less.  Does anyone have any good recommendations besides the black aces tactical?  Thank you in advance for your time and help.  Have a great memorial day and God bless those who lost their loves making the ultimate sacrifice
