Sandy 44 Posted July 28, 2014 Hey all , I am having trouble finding a kydex type holster for a full size 1911 with a rail on it ( more specifically a Smith And Wesson E Series Tactical 45 ACP) . I can only find that type of holster in a Blackhawk Serpa- do not want. Any other suggestions besides special order , paying near 100 bucks , and waiting 6 to 8 weeks?? Edited to add - no paddle holster , only looking for belt style.
acaixguard 37 Posted July 28, 2014 Raven Concealment Phantom for the win. Only thing is it is getting near the $100 mark, but as the saying goes, buy once, cry once. If RCS is not an option for you, then check out this new offering from Wilson Combat, made for them by Blade-Tech... http://shopwilsoncombat.com/Edge-Holster-Full-Size-1911-Right-Hand-15-Belt-Black-Molded-Kydex/productinfo/ED1BR15/ It is said to fit full size 1911s with and without a rail. bhunted 887 Posted July 28, 2014 Fobus makes one that also accommodates anything on the rail. Slightly unconventional, but it works. Here is my setup... Breaks from the rear...
Sandy 44 Posted July 28, 2014 John , is that a retention holster?
bhunted 887 Posted July 28, 2014 John , is that a retention holster? It's got retention and strap. But it's weird. You have to re holster and draw from the rear ... It's not hard. Just different. My mission was to find something in kydex style that will accept any add ons. You're welcome to kibitz with mine if you want before considering buying one. Here is descrpt.... This innovative Fobus tactical holster was created in answer to many requests to provide a carry system that would accommodate a handgun utilizing accessories that were either rail or trigger guard mounted. The GLT answers this request, and more! In addition to allowing the carry of handguns that have accessories such as lights or lasers mounted under the barrel or on the trigger guard. Fobus has addressed safety and retention concerns that are unique to this model holster. The handgun is held securely in place by utilization of a muzzle stud and a safety strap that encircles the trigger guard. While assuring positive retention, rapid presentation of the handgun is made easy due to the open withdrawal slot on the rear of the holster and the design of the safety strap. Sandy 44 Posted July 28, 2014 Looks like a neat holster ..but I do not think it would be legal for IDPA , which is why I wanted a holster for this gun I am absolutely tethered to the computer today..tons of photo editing to do. So I have been poking around other forums and stuff. I'll let you all know what I wind up with .

DargZ 5 Posted July 28, 2014 Bladetech made one for my Taurus 1911 ALR. It should not be very different from other railed 1911s. Turnaround was pretty quick. They also just sent out a 21% off coupon valid until Aug 9th. The coupon is lucky21deal. It looks like their site is down at the moment.
High Exposure 5,634 Posted July 29, 2014 IPW, Safariland, Raven, and BladeTech make my go-to holster for OWB. I know you can find what you are looking for from one of those companies. You can always call and ask them what they make that fits your needs. As far as the price tag goes, as always - you get what you pay for. You spend a good deal of money on a quality blaster for specific reasons. Carry those reasons a step further and apply them to your holster selection. Think of the pistol and holster as a complete package, not seperate components. After spending $800-$1000 on a pistol, is a $30 savings on your holster that big a deal? Especially if that $30 is the difference between quality gear and mediocre or even garbage equipment? Finally, please don't buy a Fobus or any of the other Isreali garbage out there. Seriously, If not for yourself, do it for the children. I don't allow them on any range I run or allow my guys to use them for carry at all, strictly forbidden (along with SERPA holsters, but I don't want to go down that rabbit hole and derail your thread and thankfully you have already dismissed them). I have seen Fobus literally self destruct - they drop guns right out if them, fall off paddles/belts, crack open like a clam, or stick to guns like glue - bad ju-ju. That particular holster that Bhunted posted (hi john ) is a unique holster and may have a niche role for certain tasks, but even with that specific role to fill there are better options - personally the Crye Gun-Clip does a similar job better (at least for Glocks, a 1911 version isn't out yet). Sandy 44 Posted July 29, 2014 Thanks I agree with you completely on the Serpa and Fobus ,thread derailment risks be damned . Bladetech for the win , especially with the 20% off. All of my holsters are Safariland or Bladtech at this point , it was more the waiting time I was looking to avoid ( could be a woman/shopping thing ) I don't even know if I want to keep the gun . I have about 100 rounds through it. So I was reluctant to spend so much on the holster. It is what it is though ..so if I sell it , it will come with a really nice holster. Bladetech ordered with 20% off ( thanks Pizza Bob for the behind the scenes help !)
