Hunter you are 100% correct. In NJ people go out of their way to not talk to you and are just damn rude. Down here in the south everyone says hi and waves and talks to you, everyone has manners. Except I can tell those who have come from the North, you can pick them out like a sore thumb especially their shitty driving habits like they own the road. Disclosure: I lived in NJ for 30 yrs so I have some experience with the people just in case someone gets defensive.

Two places in the South  that people drive like crap. In Memphis people change lanes without blinkers or even looking. Also Orlando, a lot of changing lanes without using blinkers and slamming on brakes.

Passed through Georgia in 2007, the speed limit changes every 5 miles or so on I-75 and non stop road construction. Atlanta traffic sucks. The cleanest and the best maintained roads in the country have to be Tennessee.

Congrats, must be nice not having to deal with NJ evil features and crazy taxes

Not only that. I look through the forums and see posts similar to:

"How long is the wait for ?"

"Only 6 weeks for permits in !"

Once you move to a free state, forget the long waits for FPIDs and permits. Forget OGAM. Forget the hoops and illegal extra forms.

Perhaps my previous post was overlooked. 9 DAYS FOR A CARRY LICENSE IN GEORGIA! No justifiable need necessary. As a bonus, they waive NICS with your carry license. As an extra bonus, NFA items are no longer off limits.

Freedom is the greatest thing I have ever tasted.

This is why I down sized my collection as I prepare for a move in the near future, I kept my fathers and grandfathers antique rifles/shotguns (around 30, most are no longer shootable) and sold most of my AK's and HK clones to free up money for when I move and can treat myself to some NFA toys.

I have family in GA (Savannah) and I hear it's a nice area and the folks are nice (even towards us folks from up North) so I'm stuck between PA, DE, or GA.

Hope my house in Somers Point sells, with the casinos closing up in neighboring Atlantic City the real estate market isn't looking good and I would hate to sell our family home for little to nothing but as this point I'm willing to take any decent offer to get the hell out of here.

Number one goal is to obtain my FFL when I move (trying to find houses zoned dual, ie for commercial use) and take my passion for firearms and turn it into a small side biz offering transfers, etc.

Can't wait to join everyone else in free America, wish me luck folks and again congrats on the move!! :)

"Free" is not needing a permit to Open or Conceal Carry. You have that in AZ. No NICS for CCW. Any NFA that you can afford. And so on and so on.

My father lived in Phoenix in the 70's and said it was great, I know it's changed a lot since but AZ is also a nice state. But I miss the NJ shop you had, Paul, it was a nice setup and you were great to deal with.

I just found out how much my exit tax is today... what a load of crap.  :fuckyou:

exit tax? Is that for selling your house? How does that work?

EDIT - never mind, I just read the rest of that page. But I do have a question, is the exit tax based on cap gains or the fact that you are leaving he state? My house is upside down now, if I leave will I have to pay the tax?

my company has a Charlotte office.  Down here now checking out the area today.  Hope to move here early next year.  Got the ok from my boss, just need to make sure they don't hit me to bad with any cost of living adjustment.

We were just in Charlotte 3 weeks ago and put in an offer on a house in the Highland Creek community and closing end of this month.  We worked with an Exclusive Buyers Agent who was extremely knowledgeable with Charlotte, saw 200+ houses online and about 20 houses a day while we were there.  Let me know if you want the contact info, she make everything REAL EASY.

Now that I am retired, I would like nothing better than to leave. My daughter and her family live almost literally around the corner. My son-in-law's very well paying job is here. We won't be leaving. The upside is that stupid NJ laws are so easy to side step that it becomes a fun game to do so.

Thanks.  We're going to rent for a year in Charlotte to get to know the area better.  But may have some questions for you about the area when this becomes more of a reality.  Also, it would be nice to know where to shoot.

Well, you can't carry if somebody puts up a sign, where alcohol is served, or to vote for crying out loud (cops are banned from polling places in PA but Citizens may carry). I wouldn't make that trade for no carry permit. I want to be able to carry wherever possible.

I'm waiting for a state to get all of it right. I think PA is probably in the running of a few states to come first. We've already gotten rid of the contentious issues (like where you can carry), just need to get rid of the antiquated ones that everybody else has dumped.

There are a few up near Charlotte/Matthews/Mooresville area.  However, I think most head to the DNR range across the boarder in SC.  Check on here for more specifics:

I'm not just gone, I'm watching the clock click down till retirement. Navy stationed me here & I am not a city boy in any way, so down to Tx or FL (I have family there). I've lived all over this nation I thought Ca was a pain with it's bleeding heart libs but wow. No thanks ... it is really less about the gun laws and more about the gap in classes here, there is no middle ground and the cost of living just keeps climbing which pushes out the middle class.

I'll just leave this here.

Arizona rated best state for Concealed Carry!

Once again, Guns and Ammo magazine rated Arizona as the #1 state for gun owners, this time for Concealed Carry laws.

States were rated on their concealed carry laws using the following criteria:

  • Method of Issuance. With Constitutional Carry, Arizona received the maximum score of 25 points.
  • Reciprocity. Based on the states that recognize Arizona’s permit and Arizona’s universal recognition of other states' permits, we received an 18 out of a possible 20 points.
  • Training Time. With Constitutional Carry, Arizona received 10 out of a possible 10 points.
  • Application Fee. With Constitutional Carry, Arizona received 5 out of a possible 5 points.
  • Stand Your Ground / Castle Doctrine. 10 out of a possible 10 points.
  • Best States for Gun Owners” rating. Since Arizona was top rated by Guns and Ammo magazine 2 years in a row, we received the maximum 10 points.
  • Duty to Inform. Arizona has no requirement to immediately inform law enforcement that a person is carrying, giving us 5 out of a possible 5 points.
  • Preemption. Even though we feel there is room for improvement, Arizona received a top score of 5 when compared to other states.
  • Nonresident Permit Issuance. 5 out of a possible 5.

I'll just leave this here.

Too many places off limits. IF you can't carry a gun, how can you be the most carry friendly state?

As for reciprocity, that is dumb. The article is triple counting.

- First, they give AZ points for requiring no permit. OK, fine.

- Then, they give AZ maximum points for reciprocity. Oh wait - You need their permit for reciprocity. Without it, you have THE SAME RECIPROCITY AS NEW JERSEY.

- Then, they give you a 10 out of ten for no training requirement. WHICH GIVES YOU SAME RECIPROCITY AS NEW JERSEY. You have good reciprocity with a permit only because you have some of the most stringent training requirements (0 out of 10 points).

Complete nonsense.

I'll give you mad props for no permit required to carry. But that article is 100% bullshit. And you should allow your citizens to carry more places.

AZ - A No Guns sign is written into criminal law - PA - Nope

AZ - No carry in a place that serves alcohol - PA - Just fine

AZ - Oh, but you can carry in a place that serves alcohol if you have a permit - You just lost your 10 points for permitless carry and you lost your 10 points for no training requirement. Subtract 20 points from your score.

AZ - Can't carry if having a drink - PA - Just fine

AZ - Can't carry to vote (Polling places on Election Day) - PA - Only COPS can't police the polls, citizens and Constables should be armed.

AZ is a nice state, but I would take PA over AZ.

Everything AZ has going for it PA has, too, and more. Gun laws are great and freedom is prevalent (plus if you have family in Jersey, it's a short drive back to communism).

I spent around 8 years living in a 100+ degree climate with 90% humidity in the day...I enjoy the change of season and being on the North East.

AZ has subgun competitions and large swaths of cheap land. And their gun laws aren't bad, they probably are in the top five (top ten by a hair for carry). I just don't like that article. I would guess they are #2 after PA in active gun culture, or maybe we are all somewhere in the top 3 or so.
