SCFGPA (Milltown Rd in Bridgewater) Not accepting members for 3 years?

Recommended Posts

have you ever been there regularly? I've never seen it even remotely full.

Yes. I also dont feel like shooting from the 1st position cause grampa brought his scoped .22 to shoot a few thousand bullseye rounds. Ive left because of that more than once. If we had a movable target system I wouldn't have an issue with that.

There has to be a limit or it could make the club impossible to enjoy.

I agree. There are 10 target stands, but 1 and 10 are very squished against the walls, so really only 8 are usable. There are no "ports", its just a wide open layout. No dividers between the shooters, so best to stand next to a revolver guy or be pelted. There are 4 large tables that you manually move to the desired shooting distance (2.5 shooters per table), everyone shoots at the same distance from 7 to 25 yards. When I go, if there are 4 other people there I either wait or leave, as its a bit chaotic to table share.

It says that there is a underground 100 yard 2port rifle range. How is it using that location?

What do you mean? Is it crowded? Not generally though I go at weird times. It it comfy? Not particularly. Its just what it says, two fairly small underground concrete tubes with a target at the end. Its not bad to zero your rifle or do some bench at 100yds. That's about all.

Sounds like a good place to me heading in for a little bench shooting. Don't care about comfort I can make my own. I like shooting at weird times too.

I figured it to be crowed since it's a small jewel in somerset county.

Yep, that's almost as bad as getting stuck shooting at 25 feet all the time because whoever got there first can't hit anything from the back line.

So instead of being able to move targets front and back you have to move your shooting position that sucks

It isn't a big deal when you're alone or with a buddy, maybe even someone else. Most people are willing to switch off. After that its annoying.

Suddenly, I like my range a lot more.

One of the indoor ranges is just like that: 10 positions, 2 tables that move.

The other indoor has electronic returning targets (like shore shot, bullet hole, etc). No magnums, shotgun or center fire rifle.

Outdoor is 40 positions with 25 & 50 target stands, though you can bring your own to setup at any distance up to 50 yards.

High power rifle is outdoors, 1 position only, benched at 50 or 100 yards, through a concrete tube.

And we run trap twice a week year round.

Dues are only $165/yr.

Not great of you're a rifle shooter. Pretty good for handgun, shotgun and rimfire.

I just went today.  Got there a little after 2PM.  Brought my coworker and his GF for some intro to pistol shooting...

More people showed up around 4.  Around 5 there were 6 other shooters besides us.  Luckily we headed over to the rifle tubes then so we freed up some space.

The rifle tubes are only somewhat usable.  You really need a magnified optic to shoot there - and by magnified I mean like more than 4x.  You're shooting down a dark tunnel at a dot of light at the end.

I live just off Milltown road and would love to be able to shoot there.  I've been emailing for years as well.  I keep putting off getting a membership in OBRPC because of the drive, but I will probably be doing that this winter.  Would prefer to keep my money local AND spend more time shooting than driving.  A close range means I could offer more time as well, just be more a part of the community than needing to rush out to beat traffic or whatever.  I'm shooting at RTSP fairly regularly right now, which is also a drive...

I'm another Bridgewater resident that would pay higher dues for a closer alternative than RTSP which is where I'm going now

Someone said opening up the membership is against the by-laws but by-laws can be changed by the board

As far as the town looking for any excuse to close it down, I'm surprised by that comment.

Bridgewater bends over backwards to be accommodate PP's and FID's.

Something going on with scfgpa? I check weekly to see if they are accepting new members as its less than 5 miles from me, and their website seems to be down. I dont know if its a technical issue (if it is, maybe I can help, am a network tech) or something more. I know this thread is old but it sounds like Bridgewater has been trying to shut them down, I hope thats not what happened here.

They did two rounds of new members but you needed to know a current member, and I think that's all over now, at least until the new recruits are given orientation and voted in.

I was there last week and everything was operational. Theoretically it will shut down for range upgrades some day but that's vaporware so far.

The website being down is a new one, though.

    • In 50 years of living in NJ I've never experienced any attempt to inspect the interior of the home, and only one definite inspection of the exterior for an announced reassessment of all properties and that was a drive by. About 9 years of that was living in an apartment, but still, uncommon. Every place I lived had either a finished attic, basement, or both. But they were also included in the habitable square footage on the taxes when we got there.
    • 27.00 and change in tolls to drive down the shore from Rutherford,  47.00 in tolls to go out to Long island to visit dying relatives. Now I read they are going to raise the fees in the DMV. Murphy lied just to get elected when he said that seniors will get a significant tax break with his StayNJ" program to stop us from leaving.   Keep voting for democrats...this is what you get.  Tax and spend is all they know.  Never cut anything.  This state sucks.
    • I get the added benefit that since I have a TSP rather than a true 401(k) they tax my retirement too. Yaaaay!
